What can you do with Vortex Shards in Starfield?
You can use Vortex Shards in Starfield to craft five different types of Vortex Grenades.

Initially, the game won’t allow you to craft Vortex Grenades. You must first complete the “What Remains” mission to access crafting. Once you complete the mission, you will get five different types of Vortex Grenades recipes.
Here are all the five grenades that you can craft with Vortex Shards:
1) Vortex Grenade - Binding
- 1 Vortex Shard
- 1 Dark Vortex Cyst
2) Vortex Grenade - Charged
- 1 Vortex Shard
- 1 Glowing Vortex Cyst
3) Vortex Grenade - Lure
- 1 Vortex Shard
- 1 Vortex Cyst
- 1 Dark Vortex Cyst
4) Vortex Grenade - Phasing
- 1 Vortex Shard
- 1 Glowing Vortex Cyst
- 1 Vortex Cyst
5) Vortex Grenade - Unstable
- 1 Vortex Shard
- 1 Vortex Cyst

How to get Vortex Shards in Starfield
Vortex Shards can be acquired from any Vortex enemy in Starfield. This includes Vortex Phantoms and Vortex Horrors. Vortex Phantoms are very common and can be found right after you board the Oracle while doing the mission “What Remains.”
These enemies are scattered across the DLC. You must eliminate them and loot their bodies to get Vortex Shards.

How to craft Vortex Grenade in Starfield
The process of crafting Vortex Grenades requires you to have an Industrial Workbench. Upgrading your ship with a Workshop Module will enable you to access one Industrial Workbench inside your ship.
Once you find an Industrial Workbench, you can easily craft a Vortex Grenade by using the materials listed above.
It should be noted that Vortex Grenades only work against Vortex-type enemies. Enemies like Aliens, Pirates, and Zealots will not be affected by their explosions.
