Frostpunk 2's Zeitgeist is influenced by a host of features, actions, and decisions that are specific to different ideologies. What is the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2

The Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2 is essentially a measure of the City's direction and the general socio-political ideology of your populace. Just like the namesake, Zeitgeist in Frostpunk defines the spirit or mood of the social class.

The Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2 is majorly influenced by the ideas, beliefs, and most importantly the decisions you make in-game. Moreover, the buildings you construct, and the Laws you pass also count towards furthering the different Zeitgeists in the game.

You can check your progress with the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2 from the three round icons representing the different types of Zeitgeists in the game. Clicking on each will show the Zeitgeists you have progressed in.

What are the types of Zeitgeist in Frostpunk 2

The Zeitgeist in Frostpunk 2 has three main categories: Technology, Economy, and Society. These three headers offer two options each that have their influences and standings. Each of these six types of Zeitgeists has unique features, Districts, Laws, and Factions that help them grow or diminish.

Once you complete all three Zeitgeists, you can build a windshield that essentially reduces the Heat demand for Housing Districts to zero at the cost of radicalizing the population—a tradeoff that is worth it if you know how to Deradicalize Factions in Frostpunk 2.

Technology

The Technology Zeitgeist offers two options: Progress or Adaptation. These two polar opposites are stands affecting the use and need of Technology in your City and civilization.

Progress focuses on building machines to carve out the City's place in the Frostlands. It also prioritizes improving society with technology and embracing new ideas and methods to tame nature and bend it to their will.

On the other hand, Adaptation believes that technology can never replace humans and that it is futile to fight against nature. They abhor the hubris of machines and believe that the endless powers of the Frost make steel brittle.

Economy

The Economy Zeitgeist offers two options: Merit and Equality. They affect the Economy of your City and civilization, deciding how earning, spending, and allocation of funds should be done.

Merit believes that those who work hard for wealth and riches will be rightly favored. According to them, torture favors the bold. They wish to be the champions of the Economy and carry society on their shoulders.

Equality believes that the capitalist world died with the old world. Their ideology states that similar to how the Frost does not discriminate between the rich and poor, society should not either. Equality believes in caring for all, even if they cannot contribute to the City's Economy. Equality is supported by the Pilgrims.

Society

The Society Zeitgeist offers two options: Tradition and Reason. These essentially decide how society should progress and how the Citizens must think—whether by holding onto traditions or using Reason to create new traditions and laws that befit the Ice Age.

Tradition believes that the world has changed but not the people. The old social order must be respected and followed if society wishes to carry forward and progress, They believe in sticking to a time-tested method rather than seeking radical changes to rebuild society.

Reason believes in shunning the old social order and establishing new rules and laws more befitting the Frostlands. They rely on logic and reason and believe that a new world demands a new society.

How to pursue an option in the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2

In the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2, you can pursue an option by making decisions, enacting Laws, and building structures that align with the ideology of the Zeitgeist you wish to further.

Head over to the Idea Tree and select any upgrade. Once you open up the upgrade or feature you wish to choose, the information panel has a logo on the right. Hover over the logo to see which Zeitgeist the decision will support based on your preference. Additionally, passing Laws that please the supported Faction can also further the Zeitgeist you choose.

The Idea Tree impacts and is impacted by the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2 in a major way. The decisions you make and Zeitgeists you further will unlock specific upgrades in the Idea tree. The same applies to choices in the City and during expeditions. Specific choices are unlocked if you have furthered a Zeitgeist enough and influenced your society to accept a particular decision.

Factions also play a major part in the Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2. Each of them is aligned to specific Zeitgeist Systems. Therefore, furthering the cause or supporting a Faction will also lend support towards fulfilling that Zeitgeist in your City.

You can check the Faction alignment by clicking on the icon of each Faction and seeing their Zeitgeist alignment on the right. Additionally, the icon for each Faction will show which of your actions contributed to furthering that particular Zeitgeist System in Frostpunk 2, making it a neat feature.
