The SEA server merge will commence with League of Legends patch 15.1 on January 9, 2025. Consequently, players from various servers, including those in Thailand, Singapore/Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, will be consolidated into a single community.

What to expect from the SEA server merge in League of Legends
Currently, players from the SEA region encounter numerous challenges while playing LoL, with the most notable issue being the prolonged duration required to find a match. The upcoming SEA server merge is expected to significantly reduce this long queue time. In addition, this will facilitate a more equitable matchmaking system, as more players within the same skill tier will be available online.
Improvements in latency are also expected, as a centralized infrastructure will minimize lag for most players within the region. It is important to highlight that Riot has stated that accounts, champions, skins, and account progress will be transferred automatically following the merging process.
Concerning the forthcoming changes, Arun Rajappa, Country Manager for India and South Asia at Riot Games, stated:
"By merging servers, we’re not only delivering a seamless and more competitive gaming experience but also creating a united community that fosters growth across borders. The SEA server merge allows players to connect with a larger, more diverse pool of competitors while expanding esports opportunities for emerging markets like India."
Beginning in 2025, there will be three seasons each year, each filled with new champions, events, skins, and more. The inaugural season of the upcoming year will focus on Noxus, a revamped Vikto, and the debut of a new champion, Atakhan.
Arun Rajappa also asserted,
"With three distinct seasons annually, we’re bringing fresh champions, modes, and immersive narratives that will keep players engaged year-round. Together, these updates embody our commitment to shaping the League of Legends ecosystem as a global and inclusive platform for competition, community, and storytelling."
With this unified server, emerging teams in the SEA region will receive increased visibility. The LoL Championship Pacific (LCP) recently introduced additional wild card slots within its Promotion and Relegation framework. So, if the Indian player base grows and subsequently forms a prominent team, there will be new esports opportunities.
