Elden Ring's setting is a large area filled with hidden caves, massive castles, and distinctive features that entice the player into an epic journey that grows more intricate as they progress. The origins of this setting have generated far more questions than answers. Many players have been speculating where the story of Elden Ring is set in, and have been looking into more of the lore and story well before the game's release.

Where does Elden Ring take place?

Elden Ring is set in The Lands Between, a huge realm beneath the Erdtree, a massive spectral tree visible from almost everywhere in the game. Queen Marika the Eternal formerly ruled the Lands Between. The territory thrived under Queen Marika's dominion and the might of the Elden Ring, an enormously powerful enchantment that held everything in The Lands Between subject to a Greater Will.

The Greater Will was a heavenly blueprint that made sure everything ran properly. However, as with other Soulsborne games, something went wrong. The Elden Ring was broken, and the Greater Will left the Lands Between. Queen Marika vanished. Her offspring fought an epic and terrible struggle among themselves known as the Shattering, eventually obtaining various fragments of the now-broken Elden Ring, which nevertheless possesses enormous power.

What are the regions in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring's environment is both expansive and dense. Each of the game's main sections is jam-packed with locations to explore, little tidbits that help you better grasp the game's environment, and wretched monstrosities to flee in terror from. While most of the places share this feature, much attention has been taken to create individual aesthetics, idiosyncrasies, and overall atmospheres for each region.

Who created The Lands Between?

Elden Ring was developed by FromSoftware, a Japanese video game development company known for creating challenging and immersive games such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. But the Elden Ring world was created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game director at FromSoftware. Miyazaki is well-known in the gaming industry for his work on the Souls series and Bloodborne, and is known for creating challenging, atmospheric games with complex narratives.

The game was also co-created by George R.R. Martin, an American author, and television producer best known for his series of fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones. Martin is known for his intricate world-building and character development, and his involvement in the creation of Elden Ring has generated a lot of excitement among fans of both his work and Miyazaki's.
