Steps to get the Climbing Axe in The Forest

The Climbing Axe is located in Cave 9, otherwise referred to as the Ledge Cave. This cave is one of the easier ones to locate, primarily due to its proximity to some major landmarks in The Forest. To begin your search, head towards the North-facing Mountain. You’ll soon find yourself near a major landmark, the giant sink hole, which marks the entrance to the cave. If you spot the Dam nearby, you're on the right track.

To reach Cave 9's entrance, just travel northwest of the sink hole. Since it’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, look out for a tent near the entrance as well. The cave should be near the trees, and it’s pretty straightforward from there.

Navigating the Cave

The adventure begins once you've found the entrance of the cave. Enter into the cave and you'll encounter a rope. Climb down and you'll get to the first ledge. As you are moving through the cave, you will face a lot of ledges. Take care while you are going through them. After you have reached the first ledge, go further down to the second and then to the third ledge.

At this point, you will observe a hole in the water to the right. You don't need your Rebreather for this part of the mission. Swim down, and then back up, moving forward. Keep your guard up — this is a location where a group of babies will assault you. Use dynamite or manually take them out, and head forward once they have been disposed of.

After defeating the enemies, you’ll come across another tent and a path leading left. Stick to the left side of the path and crawl through the narrow gap that appears. You’re now inside the sink hole. Continue along the left side, and be careful not to fall off the next ledge. There’s another narrow gap ahead that you’ll need to jump over to proceed.

Keep moving forward and you'll find two more cannibals to beat. When they are disposed of, continue straight and look left for a light source. That is the last area, where you'll find the Climbing Axe leaning against the wall. Take it and now you have your tool for climbing rocky cliffs across the peninsula and in caves.
