The Mayor’s Shorts quest does not require you to meet any specific conditions to trigger. Wait till the third day of summer and Mayor Lewis will send you a mail requesting you to find and return his shorts.

There is no time limit to finding Lewis’ shorts but locating them before the 11th day of summer will allow you to trigger a secret cutscene during the Luau Festival.

How to find Mayor Lewis’ Lucky Purple Shorts in Stardew Valley

Mayor’s Shorts are difficult to find. He provides no hints and leaves you to figure out their location in the vast Pelican Town. The shorts are located in Marnie’s Ranch inside Marnie’s Bedroom.

You can reach Marnie’s Ranch by taking the southwestern exit from Pelican Town or by walking south of your farm. Marnie’s bedroom is in the center of the ranch and you should be able to spot the Purple Shorts lying on the floor as soon as you enter the building.

Pick up the shorts and give them to Lewis. This will reward you with one friendship point with Lewis and 750 gold.

The entry to Marnie’s room is blocked until you reach at least friendship level 2 with Marnie. You can gain friendship levels by completing character-related quests or by gifting her the gift of her liking. The following are some recommendations for gifting Marnie:

• Farmer's Lunch
• Pumpkin Pie
• Quartz
• Eggs
• Milk
• All types of Flowers, except Poppies

You can check friendship by looking for two hearts beside her name in the NPC tab. Once you have two hearts, the entry to her room will unlock.

During the Luau Festival, the people of Pelican Town come together and cook a potluck soup to share with the visiting Governor. You can add any edible ingredient to the soup and the Governor will react based on the added ingredient.
