Rooster Trace is one of Star Wars Outlaws' many Expert skill tree tutors. Once you’ve met them and completed a short quest, you’ll be able to unlock several incredibly useful skills. Whether out in space or on the ground, Rooster Trace’s The Mercenary skill set will give you the power to stay safe and, if necessary, obliterate your foes with incredible firepower. She lets you use more weapons and perform important starship maneuvers once you unlock the ability to do so.
You can start working on unlocking Rooster Trace and The Mercenary skill set once you have been to Kijimi in Star Wars Outlaws, but you’ll need to also head into space and even Tatooine to wrap things up. Once you have the freedom to travel to different planets, you can get to work on this one.

1) Locating Rooster Trace and her cargo
While on Kijimi in Star Wars Outlaws, where you work on getting The Safecracker quest done, you can begin looking for Rooster Trace. Head to the bar while you’re on this planet and speak with the Bartender. You’ll be clued in to Rooster Trace’s location in the bar. Look for the woman sitting by herself with gray hair. No matter what, she’s not looking to help you out.
However, she does mention a tracker out in space with some of her gear. Whenever you can, head out into space and dive into the left side of the nearby Nebula. Track this quest in your journal and then fly until you get to the search area. You may run into pirates or other unwanted guests, so make sure you know how to fly and fight in the Trailblazer.
Look for some boxes that have a yellow tracking tag on them. Retrieve the homing beacon within, and the Rooster Trace mission will move on in Star Wars Outlaws. She wants you to meet her on Tatooine and find the rest of her gear.
2) Find the rest of Rooster Trace’s gear on Tatooine
To usher in the rest of the Rooster Trace mission in Star Wars Outlaws, head to the quest location in the North Jundland Wastes of Tatooine. This is also the planet where you unlock the Gunslinger Expert skill tree, making it important to Kay Vess’s overall growth. If you’ve already explored the planet, you should have a fast travel point there.
Either way, you can see it on the map—either fly out from Mos Eisley or from the closer location—north from the Jundland Wastes fast travel location. When you get to the location, you’ll see a few climbable cliffs and a handful of trunks to hide behind. You can run directly to Rooster Trace in Star Wars Outlaws, where she’s setting up an ambush—the Imperial forces have her gear.
This is the easiest part of the mission and the hardest. You’ll fight waves of Stormtroopers, that come in via transport trucks. The secret to success is to constantly swap between the various cannons you can pick up off the ground. If you have Adrenaline Rush, you can use that also to blast several troopers at once. Once you’ve completed this, Rooster has a chat with Kay Vess, and you unlock her skillset.
