Skyrim is an action role-playing game set in a vast open world. It is filled with numerous items, weapons, spells, characters and dungeons to explore. Important items in the game include weapons, armor, potions, enchantments, and spells, and one of the most important items in Skyrim is the Sapphire Dragon Claw. The Sapphire Dragon Claw is a useful item necessary to clear the Shroud Hearth Barrow dungeon.

What is the Sapphire Claw?

The Sapphire Claw is a unique item in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is a key that is used to open a specific door in the game, the door is located in the quest "Dragonstone" in the main quest line. It is marked with door codes that are used to unlock doors around the world, and this one, in particular, unlocks a door at Shroud Hearth Barrow. This door leads to a word wall for Kaan, a powerful dragon shout.

Once the player has the Sapphire Claw, they can use it to unlock the door and gain access to the Dragonstone, which is a valuable item that is essential to completing the main quest.

Where can you find the Sapphire Claw?

The Sapphire Claw can be found in the Vilemyr Inn, located in Ivarstead. To obtain the Sapphire Dragon Claw, players must complete the miscellaneous quest "Lifting the Shroud" from the innkeeper of Vilemyr Inn, Wilhelm.

To start it, players must head to Ivarstead and speak with Wilhelm, the owner of Vilemyr Inn. When speaking with him, he will complain about Shroud Hearth Barrow, and tell players of Wyndelius Gatharian, who ventured to the barrow and disappeared. Players must then follow their quest marker to Shroud Hearth Barrow to be confronted by the ghost of Wyndelius shortly after entering.

They must then proceed until they reach the room with four levers, flick the two levers nearest to the door (levers #2 and #3), and use the chain to open the gate. Players must then go downstairs to find two doors and head through the left one to advance onward until they find Wyndelius' chambers. If he's sleeping, players must take the journal from the table and leave.

If he's awake, he will attack them, so they must fend him off and grab the journal when it's safe to. Players must then exit the barrow with the journal and return to Wilhelm. By handing Wyndelius' journal over to Wilhelm, he will happily give them the Sapphire Dragon Claw in exchange. With this item, players can open the door at Shroud Hearth Barrow and access the Kaan word wall.

How to use the Sapphire Dragon Claw?

You must return to Shroud Hearth Barrow after receiving the Sapphire Dragon Claw and proceed down to the entrance marked by the three movable symbols. To create the same pattern as the Sapphire Dragon Claw, you must swap the symbols. The correct bottom sign is a Wolf, the middle symbol should be an Owl, and the top symbol is a butterfly.

The door will open once you press the "Activate Keyhole" button and arrange the symbols in the proper order. Now you can carry on your exploration in Shroud Hearth Barrow. Prepare for a fight since several Draugr will appear after the door opens.
