Destiny 2 is brimming with new and interesting mythology to contextualize all of the sci-fi shooter action. The game seems to drop a new mysterious figure with each new expansion, offering the threat of a new ultimate boss on the horizon, and the game's current expansion, Lightfall, has many fans excited for the future.
Who is the villain in Destiny 2 Lightfall?
The Witness, who has long been a thorn in the side of the Guardians, is the villain of Destiny 2 Lightfall. After being addressed in Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and, finally, The Witch Queen, this malevolent omnipotent being has been hinted as the major enemy of the entire Light and Darkness Saga. The Witness was also prominently featured in the new Lightfall launch video, when it was seen walking across space while scattered fragments of debris floated all around it.
Savathûn has asserted, among other contradicting truths, that the Witness is the child and corporeal manifestation of the Darkness. It is the Black Fleet's commander, the master of Rhulk, Calus, Nezarec, and the other students. Its actions in directing the fleet to assault caused the Collapse and ruined humanity's golden period, kicking off the franchise's plot.
Was the Witness in the previous Destiny 2 expansion?
The Witness was present in Destiny 2 as the grand surprise at the end of the Witch Queen expansion. It was discovered that the titular adversary, Savathun, is not the true foe. The Witness's remarkable visage is ultimately revealed in the closing cutscene, with some terrifying implications.
The main reveal of The Witness isn't the richest moment in the game. The Witness emerges from the black sludge, declares "the game" to be done, and reveals an apparently unending liminal area. The Witness approaches an armada of Black Fleet ships as planets float through the nameless vacuum.
Who is Calus in Destiny 2 Lightfall?
Calus enjoyed a lavish life until he was deceived by Dominus Ghaul. The former emperor of the Cabal Empire has featured multiple times in the Destiny 2 plot, usually as an opponent. That will also not change in Destiny 2 Lightfall.
Although he has fulfilled this position for most of the game's existence, the players' and his interests have previously intertwined. Calus defended the Guardians after destroying the Mind and sought their assistance countless times in the past.
Calus manipulated Hive and Scorn in a bid to communicate with the Witness and the Darkness, unveiling their final plans for the cosmos. Calus accepts his position as herald to assure the Darkness' victory as a result of this revelation, and by the end of Season of the Haunted, Calus has become the Disciple of the Witness.
