Assassin's Creed Origins remains one of the most striking series entries in Ubisoft's beloved open-world franchise to date. The 2017 game marks an evolution on both a visual level with striking vistas across ancient Egypt but also a massive overhaul and the gameplay with its hack & slash, RPG-inspired design. Despite positive reception, PC players have recently begun review-bombing the game on Steam by dropping negative reviews.
This has dropped its "Recent Reviews" status from Very Positive to Mixed on Valve's digital storefront.

Assassin's Creed Origins is being review bombed on Steam due to technical issues introduced by Windows 11 24H2 update
Going through the negative Steam reviews, it is evident that Assassin's Creed Origins has become unplayable for them following an update to Windows 11 version 24H2. Users report freezing, crashing, and other problems. Much of this is attributed to the Windows update itself which has been reportedly causing users problems.
Fans who bought the game at 90% off during the latest Steam Winter Sale 2024 will no doubt be surprised to see that their money spent is for naught as they cannot play it. Some even report Assassin's Creed Origins refusing to launch on their PC at all following the Windows 11 24H2 update.
The situation is so bad that it isn't just affecting this title, but also other aspects of the operating system and even peripherals. This problem emerged sometime in October 2024 when the Windows update dropped and there does not seem to be a solution yet. The developer responded to one of the negative reviews on Steam, mentioning that they are aware of the problem and are teaming up with Microsoft to fix things.

They even responded last month to one of the negative reviews saying:
"Hello Hard-Joe! I am very sorry to hear that you're also running into this crashing issue with Assassin's Creed Origins. I can confirm that it has been reported for investigation and our teams are already working towards a resolution with Microsoft. Once new information is available, it will be provided through official channels."
That said, it looks like players who went ahead with the Windows 24H2 update will need to be patient until a fix arrives, which is a shame as Ubisoft's expansive rendition of ancient Egypt is breathtaking to behold in scope and detail. Those who haven't should generally not face any issues on previous versions of the latest Microsoft OS or even Windows 10.
