During the official Special Program for Genshin Impact's upcoming 5.0 update, the Chairman and President of HoYoverse, Liu "Da Wei" Wei asked one of the biggest questions on many player's minds. Why is Natlan called the Nation of War? As we know, each nation in Teyvat has deep-rooted reasons in their history for why they are referred to in such a way.

One developer opened up by explaining that Natlan is a nation that has known many crises throughout its history. The people and Saurians of the region have always stood united to resist any peril that threatened their homeland. Throughout the various battles throughout the nation's history, countless heroes emerged, and the tales of their heroic deeds have been carved into obsidian monoliths as "Ancient Names".

The Ancient Names also hold a great cultural significance to the people of Natlan, as the heroes' spirit and deeds are passed down, leading to each generation of citizens growing in their ancestor's guidance. Similar to heroes of the past, they keep fighting to protect their homeland from any outside threat.

As showcased in the previous Genshin Impact Natlan trailer, all of it culminates into one big competition in the area's Stadium, where all the warriors come together to check who among them is the strongest and ready to lead on the battlefield.

The concept of War for the Nation of War is quite different, as it is not a battle in a traditional sense. It is a fierce competition where each generation prepares themselves to become the strongest so that they can protect their homeland and lead their tribes in the face of great adversity.

Inherently, the culture of the land of the Pyro Archon became tied to these various battles and strifes, leading to it gaining the moniker of the Nation of War. This is a theme common with the various nations of Teyvat, where each of them has become associated with one core concept, which is also related to their respective ruling Archon.
