According to a July 6, 2022, Twitter post by the Forspoken team, the game Forspoken was delayed due to "ongoing discussions with key partners" and was a "strategic decision."
2020 was the original release date for the PS5 and PC game Forspoken, but progress has been sluggish. Square Enix postponed the game's release from May 24, 2022, to October 11, 2022, and then to January 24, 2023. Strangely, Square Enix and Luminous Productions did not blame the delay on Forspoken not being ready; rather, it appears to be for "strategic" reasons.
The traditional image post used for game delay announcements reads: "As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023." "All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase."
"We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day, and we cannot wait to share more about Forespoken with you later this summer!"
Will there be a sequel to Forspoken?
In the game Forspoken, trying to return Frey to her home or put an end to Forspoken's corruption of the Break is a large part of the story that players will follow, but neither of these goals are actually achieved by the time the credits roll.
In actuality, the revelations about Frey's past and her position in both Athia and New York are more closely related to the lessons discovered and victories attained. While the initial goal of the journey was to restore things to normal, for both Frey and Athia, the resolution entails accepting the circumstances that have brought them to this point and establishing a new normal.
Even though the story does a good job of wrapping up the character arcs, it doesn't really address the bigger issues that continue to surround Athia. For example, despite the loss of Forspoken's four Tantas, the Break is still wreaking havoc on the world, and Susurrus, the demon at the root of all the issues, is still alive and only temporarily imprisoned. As a result, a sequel is a possibility, but given the game's mixed reviews, the possibility is somewhat hazy.
How was Forspoken developed?
Forspoken is the first game created by Luminous Productions, which was originally founded by members of the Final Fantasy XV team. The game was formerly known as "Project Athia" while it was being created. It was designed to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5's graphical capabilities. The game uses procedural generation to create expansive environments and ray tracing to create lighting effects that are significantly improved.
Gary Whitta, Amy Hennig, Allison Rymer, and Todd Stashwick make up the writing staff for the video game. The game's soundtrack was composed by Bear McCreary and Garry Schyman.
The combat in Forspoken, in contrast, seemed "one-note" and "kinda useless," according to The Verge, which praised the game's parkour system for making the game's otherwise lifeless world "enthralling" to traverse. Forspoken's stagnant beginning was criticized by Polygon, who also pointed out that the game had already ended by the time it had shown the player their entire arsenal of skills.
Who is Frey Holland?
The main character of Forspoken is Alfre Holland, also known as Frey Holland. A young woman from New York who has been magically transported to the country of Athia longs to go back. She quickly comes across a sentient bracelet she calls "Cuff" that bestows magic on her.
Frey has been in and out of foster care in New York before being magically carried to Athia, a once-lovely and tranquil country that has been devastated by the “Break.” Strangely enough, Frey is the only one who is immune to corruption, which turns anything it touches into a twisted, frequently bloodthirsty replica of itself.
Frey’s appearance is that of an African American of slim build with straight hair. When she is at home, she is seen wearing a dark green flannel and ripped skinny jeans instead of the puffer jacket that she is seen wearing in court. She changes into local clothing once she arrives in Athia and wears her hair up in a bun in the back with braids on the side of her head.
