Will Geralt be in The Witcher 4?

There has been a lot of gossip about the existence of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red recently announced their next iteration in the Witcher franchise with a cinematic trailer. To much of the community's surprise, Ciri was portrayed as the new playable protagonist in the fourth installment of the popular action RPG franchise. However, it has since been confirmed that even though Geralt won't appear for quite some time, he will still be present in The Witcher 4.

CD Projekt Red unveiled their next continuation in the Witcher series with a trailer at the Game Awards 2024. Anticipation has been at an all-time high ever since the Polish studio officially announced it back in March 2022. Well, the Game Awards trailer has since cleared up several questions that were left unanswered during the initial reveal.

First and foremost, the trailer immediately makes it clear that Ciri will be the protagonist of the fourth Witcher title. This shouldn't come as a surprise considering Projekt Red already concluded Geralt's story in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Moreover, considering how Ciri was a major character in the franchise and how Geralt always wanted to pass the mantle onto her, it made sense for her to handle the reigns this time around.

However, it doesn't mean that the original protagonist will be absent from the new entry. The developers have officially confirmed that Geralt will be present in the next title, albeit in a small role. Even his voice actor is set to return as you can hear a familiar voice at the end of the trailer, saying:

"Time for a new saga. See you on the path."

The voice is indeed that of Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt in the previous games.

While the trailer answered several questions about the game, much of the information is still under wraps, including the narrative. CD Projekt Red has been very secretive about the story, and understandably so, considering the Witcher franchise is known for its narrative prowess.

As such, we know nothing about the characters that will be present in the game, including The White Wolf. However, we can only speculate that he might appear as a mentor, giving Ciri some guidance whenever she needs it.
