Starfield will be available on Xbox Series X and S after its release on 6th September 2023.
Bethesda Game Studios is set to release Starfield, an eagerly anticipated space-themed RPG, in September 2023 after several delays. The game takes players on a thrilling journey through the Settled Systems, where they can explore numerous planets, customize their character, and engage in combat. Starfield offers deep RPG elements and meaningful customization, promising an immersive gaming experience.
What is Starfield?
Bethesda's highly anticipated RPG, Starfield, is on the brink of release after incubating for over 25 years. Emerging as a fresh IP from the creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the game's space-themed narrative introduces players to the Settled Systems in the 2330s.
As a worker combating pirates on the moon Kreet, discovering a cryptic Artifact unravels a central mystery, woven into a rich timeline of star system colonization, the Narion War, and the Colony War. Leading the charge is the Starfield Constellation faction, helmed by Sarah Morgan.
Starfield promises an immersive revolution in RPGs, propelling gamers through cosmic discoveries and uncharted territories.
Why is Starfield a “hardcore RPG”?
According to Howard, Starfield is also more of a "hardcore RPG" than Bethesda's prior efforts, as seen by our first look at Starfield's character builder.
"Some things we didn't do, the backgrounds, the traits, defining your character, all of those stats". Howard revealed that Starfield's aiming for "a lot of the things that older hardcore RPGs, something we used to do, doing those again in a new way."
While the physical aspects of the game's character creation are standard (though Todd Howard revealed during a Reddit AMA that players might choose their pronouns), the sheer range of histories and qualities is astonishing.
Players will shape their character's strengths and defects through choices, enabling a personalized interstellar journey. In the Xbox-Bethesda Games Showcase of June 2022, Howard revealed that gamers could explore "over 1,000 planets."
While some locales are complete cities like New Atlantis' central hub, numerous planets will be procedurally generated, and primed for exploration. Certain places, such as the arid moon Kreet, fall in between, featuring outposts manned by treacherous space outlaws.
Will Starfield be on Series S?
As a result of Microsoft's recent acquisition of Bethesda, Starfield will be released for Xbox Series X|S and PC. According to game director Todd Howard, the ability to work only on Xbox and PC is in Starfield's best interests but he did, however, sympathise with PlayStation users who will be unable to play it.
"You don't ever want to leave people out, right?" he said and added, "But at the end of the day, your ability to focus and say, this is the game I want to make, these are the platforms I want to make it on, and being able to really lean in on those is going to make for a better product."
While Starfield originally intended to debut on November 11, 2022--the same day The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim did in 2011--the game has been postponed multiple times since then. Starfield's original release date was intended for the first half of 2023 but it has since been moved to September 6, 2023.
