Ubisoft's latest free-to-play multiplayer FPS XDefiant is on the verge of release, and with a new free-to-play title, there is always the question of whether the game has pay-to-win mechanics or not. While microtransactions have been a part of the gaming industry for a while, gaining an in-game advantage by paying more can always be a nuisance and an obstacle to fair gameplay.

As the new shooter gets released on May 21, Ubisoft has officially released a blog revealing the in-game purchase philosophy for XDefiant. If you want to know whether the game hides behind a paywall or not and how the in-game purchase works, read below.

XDefiant's in-game purchase system explained

XDefiant publisher has officially revealed that the game will not feature any kind of pay-to-win features at all. However, there would be purchasable in-game content but that won't come in the way of the fair gameplay experience.

In the official blog post, the publisher states,

"There are no pay-to-win mechanics - Any gameplay impacting content that is purchasable is also unlockable through challenges to ensure fair play amongst our community."

As for the in-game purchases, the blog explains by giving an example. The DeadSec faction in XDefiant preseason will be purchasable. Hence, players can unlock it using money. However, the same faction can also be obtained via in-game challenges. If you want to unlock the DeadSec faction in the pre-season, you have to acquire 700k XP.

If a player wants to spend money on XDefiant, they can explore multiple ways to do that. XDefiant will have a premium battle pass system alongside the standard battle pass. There will be character and weapon cosmetics. There will also be Faction unlocks, emoji packs, and more. However, keep in mind that none of the in-game purchases will have any direct impact on the gameplay.

The blog post has also explained that players will feel rewarded in various ways after playing XDefiant. For instance, there will be free battle pass rewards that players can obtain. With daily and weekly in-game challenges, there will also be a plethora of content that players can earn. The game will feature a dedicated weapon mastery system.
