Why does Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker deserve a remake?
Peace Walker is a game that will benefit significantly from the graphical fidelity of the PlayStation 5, complete with ray-traced nanomachines and hyper-realistic physics. It's not just about the visuals, though. Peace Walker's gameplay was ahead of its time, laying the groundwork for the open-world shenanigans of The Phantom Pain.
The new generation of fans of the MGS franchise needs to experience the amount of freedom and possibilities Peace Walker has given to the player. There is literally no linear method to get your objective done, you just need it done. If you have a plan to complete the objective without playing half of the level, there is a high chance that the game will let you do it.
Let's not forget the multiplayer aspect. Peace Walker's co-op missions were an absolute riot, allowing you and your friends to tackle missions together. With a modern-day remaster, the multiplayer aspects of the game will be phenomenal to play with an integrated voice chat.
Of course, no Metal Gear game would be complete without a healthy dose of narrative insanity, and Peace Walker delivered in spades. From the introduction of Kazuhira Miller (a.k.a. the one-armed bro with a supremely cool pair of sunglasses) to the mind-bending AI revelations, this game was a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. Let's not forget about the boss battles! I could buy the remaster just to fight PUPA in 4K.
In the end, Peace Walker is the bridge that the modern Metal Gear Solid fans deserve. Not only did it connect the storyline of two of the mainline MGS games: Snake Eater and Ground Zeroes, but it also introduced new aspects to the classic MGS formula like co-op and level freedom. With the rise of handhelds like Steamdeck and Nintendo Switch, Konami can also preserve the feel of the original by making it a handheld title.
