Cheating has always been a huge problem in CS2, and fans are now thoroughly outraged. It looks like this problem is not slowing down any time soon despite Valve claiming that VAC (Valve Anti-cheat) is highly effective against third-party hacks. The underlying problem is stronger than ever in competitive matchmaking, and new clips of hackers keep popping up on r/cs2, the Counter-Strike community on Reddit.
Cheaters have seemingly invaded even the high-trust factor lobbies and no one is safe anymore. A Reddit user that goes by u/hugodestructor shared a clip of their encounter with a hacker with over 1200 hours in CS2, commenting on the poor state of affairs with Valve's anti-cheat:
"Is this normal? Do people cheat on their main accounts?? I know there is a crazy ammount of cheaters and its normal to run into them, but wtf, on your main? With 1200 hours???? Is it really that bad that they arent even banning anyone at all??"

u/Fair-definition3178 backed up this incident by stating their own experience with cheaters. They drew attention to the fact that many accounts are bought, sold, and even boosted for cheating and that this is a very common practice among hackers.
On the topic of boosting accounts, u/Klaasje15 talks about how their friend once boosted their account to 3000 hours in just a short amount of time. This puts into perspective the state of CS2 in 2024, and the fan outcry does not stop there.
One user, u/ApacheAttackChopperQ, commented that cheat creators have stepped up their game with premium cheats. Users u/SmokeLineup and u/LeafarOsodrac also chime in with their opinions.
They further talk about how people buy accounts just to run hacks and even about how Valve fails to properly take care of this problem plaguing the community.

What this could spell for CS2 and Valve
Counter-Strike has always had its fair share of hackers and this has been true since the early days of the game, even persisting to this day. The people who make these cheats and the hackers who run them have gotten quite bold over the years and this has surely hurt the game.
With the community being so vocal about the issue, Valve has to clean up its servers. All that players can do now is to report as many hackers as possible.
Many have already switched to other games because of this and if Valve does not act fast, its playerbase will continue to dwindle. This is such a fundamental issue to address and the fans are still waiting for some substantial changes.
