Wuthering Waves is dropping its huge 2.0 update soon, and we've had a chance to get hands-on with it ahead of time as well as chat with the developers about this amazing bit of content. I haven’t put as much time in with Kuro Games’ title as I’d like — that’s going to change now that it’s going to be on PlayStation 5. There’s a lot to love about this update, from quality-of-life changes to amazing new Resonators.

If you’re as excited as we are about the Wuthering Waves 2.0 update, you can also redeem some amazing codes in-game while you wait for this content to finally drop. There’s a lot to love, so here’s what we think of the 2.0 update.

Wuthering Waves 2.0’s new Resonators are incredibly powerful and fun to play

Perhaps what people are most excited about are the new Resonators. As someone who has been hands-on with both, I have to say they both are amazingly fun to play. There’s Carlotta and Roccia, who both have very unique gameplay styles and movesets compared to one another.

Carlotta is the first five-star long-range Resonator coming to Wuthering Waves in the 2.0 update, and she plays like a dream. To me, it felt like I was playing someone like Noel Vermillion in BlazBlue, with her Demon Guns — Bolverk. It has lots of amazing attack animations, solid range, and plenty of damage.

You can also hold down her attacks to get a separate, more powerful blast, with some truly gorgeous attack animations. She’s probably who I will want to play first when the update goes live.

Roccia is so much fun to play too, if you’re a fan of silly anime-style girls. First Mate of the Fool’s Troop, i.e., a group of actors, she has some very over-the-top abilities. She swings her suitcase like it’s a gigantic mallet and has some awesome close-range AoE attacks.

She’s also, in a way, a Pokemon-style character as she has a shadowy buddy in her suitcase who helps in her attacks. Overall, both characters feel very fun to use, and I can see them both being very popular.

The new Wuthering Waves 2.0 regions/zones are beautiful

We got a sneak peek at some of the areas you’ll be exploring in Wuthering Waves 2.0 as well, such as the Sea of Clouds. It’s covered in this thick mist, barely shrouding some of the ruins, and beautiful pink-flowered trees. Ragunna is such a gorgeous region; everything I saw looked very sharp.

We also saw one of the upcoming areas, called the Averado Vault, which will be an important story location and dungeon. You can probably imagine it’s filled with great treasures and Echos, though. It’s a beautiful locale, with waterways you can travel along to get to this massive vault.

Between Averado Vault, the Sea of Clouds, and Ragunna City, the new region of Rinascita delivers when it comes to looks. The areas themselves are also fun to navigate, especially with the new travel tools players will have at their disposal.

Players have new ways to travel and explore in Wuthering Waves 2.0

One of the new ways to travel in Wuthering Waves 2.0 update, the gondola will carry you across various bodies of water across this new region. It’s easy to pilot, and you can bring a friend along.

One bit of feedback Kuro Games have gotten over the past year or so is that players want more ways to explore and travel the world, and this Gondola is one of the answers to that. The gondola itself is an Echo and can travel all over this beautiful landscape.

I’m also a big fan of the new gliding tech. Being able to slowly glide across huge parts of the map? Always a fun time. It looks very cool and fits some of the changes made. There’s a lot to explore, verticality and otherwise, so having a glide ability will let players get around and see some truly breathtaking sights.

Gliding/flight is also very easy to do. Just leap from a really high place and press “T,” and you’ll begin flying. It has a stamina bar though, so when it runs out, you can glide to the ground safely.

New Echo Challenges await in Wuthering Waves 2.0

Here’s another thing I think fans are really going to love: these new Echo Challenges. We got a look at one of them during our time with the developers, and as they were trying to find ways to use Echos in gameplay more, these Echo Challenges were the result. While showing off some of this gameplay, we also saw Echos fighting each other; turns out some of them are territorial!

You can absorb and then use these Echos in these new challenges in some pretty creative ways. For example, you’ll see some huge blocks of stone with green scratch marks on them. You can briefly transform into one of the new Echos, Cuddlewuddle, and use his Plushie Punch to demolish them. Doing this will also reward you with some in-game currency, which is nice.

There’s also the Echo Leap Challenge, where you have to leap from point to point on the map, without messing up. If you hit all the points without fail, a treasure chest awaits at the end. It seems challenging but also a great deal of fun if you like jumping puzzles in games like World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2.

Tactical Challenge feature turns Wuthering Waves into Devil May Cry

Throughout the game, you’ll start encountering these Tactical Trial battles, where you have to fight a specific enemy/enemies. As you bounce around and attack these enemies, you’ll notice you have a grade in the top left of the screen. This really felt like a nod to the stylish combat of Devil May Cry.

With the various Resonators in Wuthering Waves 2.0, I feel like there’s possibility for some truly stylish combos, juggles, and attack sequences. You also have to avoid being hit. The better you do in the fight, the higher your grade will be, and the better your rewards will be.

Final thoughts

We don’t want to spoil everything for Wuthering Waves 2.0, but I can tell you that from the intense dragon fight at Penitent’s End — the Dragon of Dirge — to the various areas and Echo Challenges, there’s so much to be excited for. This patch is gigantic and brings the game to PlayStation 5 players.

There’s so much amazing lore, story, and backstory to Wuthering Waves 2.0, which is what really hooks me for games like this. Kuro Games has really given the players a lot this time, like new ways to travel the world, cool new challenges, and amazing Resonators. There’s a lot to love in this patch and we can’t wait for you to discover it.
