Ubisoft's Mark Rubin, who's also the executive producer of XDefiant, has revealed that the engine on which the game is running wasn't made for first-person shooters. This revelation comes amid the increasing number of bugs in the arena shooter after the first seasonal update that offered lots of content but came with a bunch of unexpected issues and performance-based glitches.
While sharing details on why the game is suffering from uncontrollable bugs, Mark Rubin mentioned that it's the XDefiant engine that still needs improvement to make the experience better.
XDefiant engine will take time and players who feel it's not for them can "move on"
Mark Rubin recently took to X to explain the cause behind inexplicable and annoying issues in the free-to-play first-person shooter. When asked whether the engine was outdated or not, he revealed that the XDefiant engine (at Ubisoft) wasn't originally made for a dedicated first person shooter experience.

"It's not that it's outdated. It's more just that it's wasn't made to do first person shooters so there is a lot to do and to improve."
He revealed that the engine the game is running on had been designed for MMOs. Thus, all the infrastructure had to be built from scratch. While other IPs like Call of Duty and Apex Legends had a dedicated shooter engine to work on, it's not been the case with XD, according to Mr. Rubin.
Furthermore, he also urged players to keep patience until the issues are resolved as the team is still working hard to turn the arena shooter into the amazing title it was intended to be.

Rubin also added:
"We're not a shooter that's been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you'll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn't for you that's ok you can move on."
It will be crucial to see how the developers will resolve the existing bugs, especially in the ambitious Ranked Mode. Hopefully, the community will receive a major update from Mr. Rubin soon.
