XDefiant Season 2 reveal: New faction, maps, ranked rewards, and more

XDefiant Season 2 details have officially been revealed in a brand new episode of XDebrief. The show's familiar host, Youssef Garcia-Maguid, returned in a new video posted on the official XDefiant YouTube channel today, on September 19, 2024. The announcement introduced the upcoming Highwaymen faction and also shed some light on new game modes, maps, and more.

XDefiant Season 2: New faction, maps, and ranked rewards and game modes

New Highwaymen faction

Ubisoft has officially revealed the new Highwaymen faction coming up in XDefiant Season 2. Fans can expect a lot of new interesting things, including the faction's passive trait Revved, which increases your fire and reload rate for consecutive kills.

This faction comes straight from Far Cry: New Dawn, and the leading twin sisters Mickey and Lou are at the forefront of it. Here are their abilities listed as per Ubisoft's official announcement:

• M79 Grenade Launcher
• Scrap Turret (360-degree mounted machine gun)
• Saw Launcher (Ultra)

The Highwaymen faction is meant to be fast-paced and rather brutal to enemies with their area-control abilities. This will officially be the seventh faction in the game once XDefiant Season 2 releases it.

New Maps

The XDefiant Season 2 update will bring three new maps to the game. One of these maps is inspired by Far Cry: New Dawn and will be introduced first while the other two will be released at different points later on in the season. The maps are as follows:

• Waterfront
• Signal
• Air & Space

Waterfront is the one map that will be released first and is directly inspired by the home game of the Highwaymen faction, that is, Far Cry: New Dawn. It comes from the post-apocalyptic Hope County in Montana. Apart from that, we will finally see the arrival of Signal in XDefiant Season 2, a map that was earlier leaked in May 2024. Meanwhile, Air & Space remains an interesting new adventure that players will get to explore.

Ranked rewards

XDefiant Season 2 will naturally come with brand-new ranked rewards for the players. Unfortunately, neither the blog nor the announcement video did not share an in-depth look at what the ranked rewards will be. However, multiple new skins for weapons and Operators were showcased for a short duration of time in the video as the upcoming ranked rewards.

These will also be accompanied by a brand new 90-tier Battle Pass where players can claim multiple free-track items without paying any money.

New game mode

Perhaps one of the most exciting features of XDefiant Season 2 is the brand-new game mode called Bomb. Similar to the bomb-planting and defusing matches popularized by the Counter-Strike franchise, two teams will battle one another in this arena style mode to either attempt to detonate a bomb or defuse it.

There will be two plant locations on a map, and teams will switch sides every single round instead of playing multiple rounds as one side like many popular FPS shooters. The first team to secure six rounds will take the win. Bomb mode will initially be released in the casual playlists for the developers to gather important data and collect feedback.

Finally, Private Matches are also coming to XDefiant in Season 2 and these matches will be customizable to help elevate the player experience with friends.
