Zelda Echoes of Wisdom: One Soldier too Many side quest walkthrough

The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom has an expansive campaign mode, which has Zelda traverse the vast map of Hyrule, fighting bosses, collecting rewards, and of course, completing many side quests. One of these quests, called "One Soldier Too Many", involves Zelda putting on her detective hat to find out which soldier's actions are suspicious.

This side quest requires the main quest "Still Missing" to have been completed, and can be found at the southern entrance to Hyrule Castle Town. A guard named Beecher will approach Zelda, seeking assistance in finding the impostor.

Searching for the suspicious soldier

Beecher asks Zelda for assistance, claiming that General Wright has asked him to investigate his fellow soldiers. He also mentions that there is one extra soldier, implying that someone or the other is an imposter. Various soldiers are present all around the castle and can be questioned about the suspect. However, three specific soldiers need to be questioned to proceed forth with the quest and they are as follows.

1. A guard is present to the right of the fountain. He will guide Zelda in the direction of a guard on the Western Rampart.
2. Heading towards this soldier will result in him informing Zelda to proceed forth to the barracks, where another guard on duty may have more information.
3. The guard in the barracks will inform Zelda of some broken equipment that went missing. Then, Beecher will appear and ask the player if the investigation has broken ground. Inform Beecher of the findings, with the most likely possibility being that the impostor or echo soldier has the damaged equipment.

Finding the suspicious soldier, and claiming the reward

After answering Beecher, Zelda can explore the castle to find a soldier with a broken piece of equipment. Every guard need not be scrutinized, as the one with the broken equipment will be near the well. Upon closer inspection, Zelda will find his lance broken.

Return to Beecher inside the barracks, where he will quiz the player to get to the root of the situation. During this conversation, mention that a suspicious soldier was spotted, and then provide him with the following answers:

1. Where did you see the suspicious soldier? Near the well.
2. And which piece of equipment was damaged? The lance.

A cutscene follows, where it turns out the impostor had good intentions, as he simply wanted to join the ranks of the army, but went about doing so by stealing some uniform and equipment! General Wright will thank Zelda by presenting a Golden Egg as the reward, and the quest will conclude.
