Who is Phaethon in Zenless Zone Zero?

Phaethon in Zenless Zone Zero's New Eridu is a Legendary Proxy who represents Wise and Belle together. The story of Phaethon is the central plot of Zenless Zone Zero and it follows Belle and Wise as they investigate the Hollows in quest of a "thing" from their past. Gamers will come across certain chapters requiring them to reach a certain Inter-Knot Level to progress the story. They can set or disable "Challenge Mode" to make the adversaries more tough to beat and "Trial Mode" to add specific agents to their squad.

According to Greek mythology, Pheathon is the son of Helios, the Sun god, who attempted to drive his father's Sun chariot but died in the end. Helios had informed Phaethon before granting his desire that not even Zeus could control the chariot, but Phaethon's ego got in the way regardless.

While Phaethon did not get the traditional sentence, he was punished for his pride. He lost control of the chariot just like Helios had warned him and burnt the Earth after failing to take its helm properly. This prompted Zeus to strike the chariot with a bolt to prevent the Earth from being destroyed.

Taking a piece from this mythological character above, Belle from Zenless Zone Zero is one of the two managers at the video store Random Play, as well as one-half of the famed Proxy Phaethon. She isn't the type to make witty remarks or participate in pranks and is a sweet and easygoing young girl. She is also perceptive and vigilant.

Wise is the other of the two managers, as well as one-half of the famed Proxy Phaethon. He is the more mature, reassuring, and wiser sibling of the two.

At the start of the game, players will be given the option to choose either Belle or Wise as their primary Proxy. These two, however, are not playable characters in the natural sense because their role places them on the sidelines. As suggested by their title, their role is that of proxies. They assist and collaborate with Agents to navigate the Hollow through anonymous commissions.

The combat is handled by Agents who travel through the Hollow whenever their services are required. Belle and Wise are the Proxy account handlers for Phaethon in Zenless Zone Zero, known for their expertise and success rate. Unfortunately, at some point in the story, you lose access to that account and must restart from scratch. This is where a player's account name comes into play by becoming the new Proxy identity for Belle and Wise.
