India’s Shahaan Engineer is delighted with the progress after making a debut in the Six-Race ’Finals Series’ of Formula Renault UK at Snetterton in Norfolk. Over the weekend Shahaan enjoyed a pair of top 12 finishes with a great fight back after getting a grid penalty on Saturday and facing a wiring loom issue on Sunday.
The Mumbai-born 16-year-old, racing for Fortec Motorsports, clocked eighth best time in his opening qualifying session. He had a grid penalty after avoiding yellow flags during rounds and was dropped to 26th place on the grid with 29 starters. But the desi lad fought nicely to secure 12th place from a lowly grid.
“It’s been a good weekend for us, I’m happy with the progress we made. We had some issues to overcome, the grid penalty on Saturday and then the wiring loom on Sunday, but the races went well and I was able to finish ahead of some really experienced guys. I’ve learnt a lot but there’s much more to do, hopefully we can be even stronger next weekend at Rockingham,” said Shahaan.
