The 2024 F1 British GP comes at a very interesting time as the sport reels from its latest controversial incident. The collision between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in Austria has split the fanbase. Since then, Red Bull and McLaren have made a few scathing remarks about each other.

McLaren has also gone a step further and posted a video of Sky Sports analyst Anthony Davidson showing how Max Verstappen was at fault for the clash. As the F1 Austrian GP race weekend came to an end, Lando Norris made it clear that he was looking forward to Max accepting his mistake in the collision.

Up next is Lando's home race in Silverstone. The F1 British GP crowd has never been a fan of Max Verstappen. He's faced vociferous boos ever since he started competing against the likes of Lewis Hamilton in 2021.

What can we expect this weekend from the F1 British GP crowd? Well, lots of boos. What can we expect from the race weekend? Let's take a look.

2024 F1 British GP: Preview

Key Storylines

#1 Lando Norris-Max Verstappen dynamics

Lando has made it clear that unless Max admits it was his mistake, their relationship could take a hit. In all of this, Christian Horner has claimed that the two drivers have had a chat since then, and things are better between the two now.

Well, the proof is in the pudding. The F1 British GP will see the two drivers likely bump into each other off-track and race on it. Irrespective of how close they are, they won't yield an inch on track. Both Lando and Max are the same. All eyes will be on the pair, as their friendship seems strained at this stage.

#2 The crowd

Max Verstappen has been the target of some of the worst boos in Silverstone over the years. It started in 2021 during his intense title battle with Lewis Hamilton. It hasn't changed since. His tangle with another British driver is only going to make things worse.

#3 What's up with Ferrari and Mercedes?

With McLaren truly stepping up, there appears to be a slight gulf between what the top 2 teams can accomplish over the weekend and what the next two can do. That was also the case in Austria, even though George Russell did win the race.

Form guide

In Form

George Russell comes to the F1 British GP after his second win of the season in Austria. Just like the former British world champion Jenson Button, his results at Silverstone have not been as good as he would have liked.

Russell crashed out in 2022 and was unlucky when a late-race safety car cost him a podium last year. This time around, he's coming to the track with serious momentum and will be hoping for a strong result.

Out of Form

There's going to come a moment this season when Sergio Perez's ineptness will start costing Red Bull the constructor championship position. The Mexican has been poor this season with the level of his performances leaving a lot to be desired.

In all of this, he comes to the race where he performed well in 2023. The F1 British GP could be the moment where the Mexican can once again show what he can do in the car.

2024 F1 British GP: Predictions

Who will win the race?

The fast-speed sections of Silverstone are not for all drivers or for even some of the best cars. A certain strength in these sections is crucial, and it needs to be aided with great traction out of the braking zones because the first sector is mostly comprised of those.

The track should once again feature a close contest between Red Bull and McLaren, but since this is the home race for Lando Norris, we're going with him.

Surprise of the weekend (Driver)

Lewis Hamilton is one of those who has shown in the past that a home race can prove to be a big boost for any driver. The Mercedes driver was on the podium last season, and everyone remembers the win in 2021.

He's coming into the F1 British GP race weekend with his teammate having won the previous race. Lewis will be looking to make a statement this time around, and we're backing him to do something special.

Surprise of the weekend (Team)

RB has not had the best two races in Barcelona and Austria. The team brought a major upgrade in Spain, but it is yet to truly optimize it. The track layout for the F1 British GP works for RB and should help them score this weekend.

Disappointment of the weekend (Driver)

Sergio Perez is currently in this vicious cycle of churning out one poor result after the other. The reason? The car has been caught up in terms of performance, and while Max has not let his results drop, Perez has suffered.

Unfortunately, it's a tough ask to expect much from the Mexican this weekend. With cars so close in terms of performance, expect Perez to struggle at the F1 British GP.

Disappointment of the weekend (Team)

Haas scored a bucketload of points in Austria thanks to the brilliance of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. Unfortunately, the car has one weakness, which is going to get exposed in Silverstone.

When it comes to tracks with high-speed sections, the car struggles compared to the competition, and we expect more or less the same this weekend.
