The 2024 Hungarian GP saw Oscar Piastri win his first F1 race. He took the race lead from Lando Norris at the start, which eventually sealed the result.
The race weekend saw quite a few impressive performances all around. Lewis Hamilton, who finished on the podium as well, had an impressive race weekend, but Max Verstappen had a horrendous one.
On that note, where do the drivers stand in the overall pound-for-pound rankings after the race in Hungary? Let's take a look.
Criteria: We take the average driver ratings after every race and rank the drivers accordingly.
F1 Drivers 'Pound for Pound' Ranking (After Hungarian GP 2024)
#20 Guanyu Zhou (Avg rating: 5.46)
Zhou is fighting for his career at Sauber this season, but, unfortunately, the results are not there. The Hungarian GP did little to bring any new suitors either.
#19 Sergio Perez (Avg rating: 5.50)
While many might fixate on the fact that Sergio Perez had a strong Sunday in the Hungarian GP, you cannot ignore the fact that the Mexican was a disaster once again on Saturday. He's P19 in the rankings.
#18 Logan Sargeant (Avg rating: 5.58)
Sargeant started the season badly, but if we start looking at the last few races, he has been closing the gap to Albon. His overall rating is P18, but his recent performances have shown an uptick.
#17 Lance Stroll (Avg rating: 5.77)
Lance Stroll's poor start to the season muddles the picture to an extent, as the Hungarian GP was impressive for him. The Canadian is getting the better of Fernando Alonso. Imagine writing that sentence down after all these years.
#16 Kevin Magnussen (Avg rating: 6.00)
Kevin Magnussen didn't have the best Hungarian GP, and it appears that his biggest weakness is qualifying, where Hulkenberg just pulls away. The driver is playing catch-up, which hurts his overall result.
#15 Valtteri Bottas (Avg rating: 6.04)
Valtteri Bottas might just be doing enough to change Audi's mind in terms of keeping him beyond 2024. It remains to be seen what direction the team will take in the coming weeks.
#14 Daniel Ricciardo (Avg rating: 6.27)
Daniel Ricciardo's form has improved recently, and he's more or less on the level of Yuki Tsunoda. The Australian was a bit unlucky with the strategy at the Hungarian GP, but signs are more or less positive for him.
#13 Pierre Gasly (Avg rating: 6.68)
Gasly finds himself in P13, with one of the major reasons for him being stuck is his team's incompetency. The driver is unable to show what he can do in the car as reliability issues and strategic mistakes continue to hurt him.
#12 Fernando Alonso (Avg rating: 6.77)
Alonso is having anything but a vintage season. He has struggled to beat Stroll recently, which has been strange, but even off-track, he's sounded very irritated. For now, he finds himself in P12.
#11 Alex Albon (Avg rating: 6.92)
Alex Albon is in P11. He has been the benchmark and a pillar for Williams. He will look to build on the momentum he has slowly built and finally take advantage of the eventual step in performance that Williams make with the car.
#10 Lewis Hamilton (Avg rating: 6.96)
Lewis Hamilton started the season poorly, but once again at the Hungarian GP, he has shown that class is permanent, even though form can be temporary. He's in the top-10 now, and you can expect him to make a few more jumps in the coming races.
#9 Yuki Tsunoda (Avg rating: 7.15)
Yuki Tsunoda continues to be a consistent performer this season. He finds himself P9 after the Hungarian GP.
#8 Esteban Ocon (Avg rating: 7.19)
Ocon is suffering from the same thing Pierre Gasly was in the sense that Alpine haven't allowed their drivers the opportunity to show what they can really do with the car.
#7 Oscar Piastri (Avg rating:7.31)
The race winner at the Hungarian GP is slowly climbing his way closer to the front and he continues to impress. Piastri is now a race winner, and it's likely just the first of many.
#6 Carlos Sainz (Avg rating: 7.46)
Carlos Sainz continues to be a solid performer every weekend. He did a great job for Ferrari once again in Hungary, as he brought home the points.
#5 George Russell (Avg rating: 7.50)
George Russell hasn't had a good run in the last couple of races. Hungary was partly his fault, as he finds himself P5 in the rankings.
#4 Charles Leclerc (Avg: 7.77)
Charles Leclerc ideally should have been on the podium at the Hungarian GP, but Ferrari's strategy put paid to that. The driver delivered a strong weekend after a run of bad races.
#3 Nico Hulkenberg (Avg rating: 7.81)
Not the best Hungarian GP for Nico Hulkenberg, but he continues to hold his place in P3 even as other drivers are closing in on him.
#2 Lando Norris (Avg rating: 8.35)
Lando Norris made one mistake at the Hungarian GP, and it was the start. That cost him the win, but, otherwise, it was a weekend, where he didn't do too many things wrong. He has closed the gap to P1 after this weekend.
#1 Max Verstappen (Avg rating: 8.42)
Verstappen has narrowly held on to P1 in the pound-for-pound rankings after a disastrous show at the Hungarian GP. He will hope for a better run in the future as he tries to regain momentum.
