2024 F1 Hungarian GP: Top 5 Bold Predictions

F1 Grand Prix of Hungary
McLaren at the F1 Grand Prix of Hungary

The 2024 F1 Hungarian GP comes at a very intriguing moment. We're on a four-race stretch where we've had three different drivers win and three different teams fight for wins. In the sport's recent history, it's not often we see such dynamics and this certainly makes for an interesting viewing.

The F1 Hungarian GP has been a happy hunting ground for Mercedes even in the ground effect era. The team has had pole in both races that have taken place in this new era even though the drivers could not convert either of them into wins.

This time around, Mercedes is coming to the F1 Hungarian GP on the back of a two-race win streak. Not only that but Silverstone was a race where George Russell and Lewis Hamilton locked out the front row. It would be unfair not to mention Red Bull or McLaren, as both of those teams have been in close contention for the win throughout the season.

With that being said, what can we expect from the F1 Hungarian GP? Let's find out as we share our predictions for the race event.

#5 RB and Aston Martin could battle it out for final points

Haas had two brilliant top-6 finishes in the last two races. Having said that, the car has been upgraded and it has cured a few issues. But is the car now as impressive on slow-speed tracks as Hungaroring? That might be a stretch. These midfield teams have their strengths and weaknesses, and the track in Hungary should see the balance tilt more towards the likes of Aston Martin and RB.

Expect these two teams to be right on the cusp and fighting for points this weekend.

#4 The battle for the win will be intense

As we've seen in the last few races, none of the cars have just pulled away from the rest. This weekend as well, in terms of performance, the gaps are not going to be too quick. It's once again going to come down to the team's abilities to think on their feet and ace race execution.

This was what helped Mercedes win in Silverstone. This was also what helped Red Bull nail it in Canada. The fight for the win is going to be very close, with driver performance coupled with the team's operational excellence making the difference.

#3 Ferrari should be more competitive this weekend

Ferrari is going through a poor run of form in the last few races as the upgrades have proven to be a disaster. Coming to a track like Hungaroring, where porpoising might not be the biggest of issues, the team should heave a sigh of relief. The team last won in Monaco, a track that's very similar to the one in Hungary in terms of demands.

To add to this, the car's ability to ride the kerbs is what helped him gain lap time in the previous races and could play a role at this track as well. Ferrari was a distant fourth-fastest in the last few races. Things could change at the F1 Hungarian GP this weekend.

#2 Red Bull is going to struggle at the F1 Hungarian GP

To succeed at a track like Hungaroring, a car should be efficient in the slow-speed sections, and to add to that, the ability to ride the kerbs is paramount. These are arguably the areas where Red Bull has struggled the most. This was evident in Monaco, as this was the area where Max Verstappen lost a ton of time.

In terms of pre-F1 Hungarian GP expectations, Max Verstappen and Red Bull might not be getting their hopes high as the car could struggle around the track.

#1 Lando Norris wins the F1 Hungarian GP

The last few races have been hard on Lando Norris emotionally because of the manner in which he's lost them. He should have won in Barcelona, Austria, and Silverstone. He comes to the F1 Hungarian GP after far too many disappointments.

The confidence would be low, and if he has the mettle to bounce back, he would show it this weekend. The track should be perfect for McLaren, especially the fact that this weekend it's going to stay dry and hot, which makes it challenging for the tires.

Lando has been the tire whisperer in the last few races, and this should work to his advantage. We're backing the McLaren driver to win the F1 Hungarian GP and silence the ever-growing number of haters.
