The grid for the 2024 F1 Italian GP is set. Lando Norris will start from pole, followed by Oscar Piastri. The second row will have George Russell in P3 and Charles Leclerc in P4.
The pole position in Monza is considered very important. The driver who's on pole at this track has a better win% than at Monaco. However, Norris and McLaren in general have struggled with their starts this season. So, what can we expect from the 2024 Italian GP? Let's find out.
#1 Charles Leclerc to win the Italian GP
Just as it has been the theme for the entire Italian GP race weekend, we have Charles Leclerc and Team Ferrari this time around and not without reason.
Leclerc will start in P4, and that's not as bad as it was in Zandvoort, where he was just too far back. The car has shown impressive pace on used tyres, which could come into play during the race.
Moreover, Norris hasn't had a race where he has held on to the lead. He will be under pressure, and things could change a lot at the start of the race.
#2 Max Verstappen to finish in top 5
Max Verstappen didn't look too upbeat after the Italian GP qualifying, and there's good reason for that. The Dutch driver doesn't think a good result is possible with the car he has.
However, while a podium might be a step too far, a top-5 result is certainly on the table for Verstappen at the Italian GP.
#3 McLaren could be hard to beat
With all being said, it's tough to say that McLaren would be an easy scalp for anyone. They have two excellent drivers and a brilliant car. It's going to be difficult to topple even one of the two, which could make things very interesting.
Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren will likely be in contention for the win on Sunday, and the tide could turn in any direction this weekend.
#4 Longer DRS zone could lead to more action
The Italian GP is featuring a longer DRS zone this time. In the last few races, one of the more annoying aspects of racing at Monza was the processional nature of races. That could change with a longer DRS zone in 2024.
However, the opening up of different strategic options with a two-stopper on the table is something that cannot be discounted.
#5 Haas and Williams to battle for final points
Haas and Williams could be the teams to spearhead the battle of picking up the scraps.
Monza is not one that tends to have many crashes or stoppages. It's likely going to be another straightforward race where track position could make a difference.
