The grid for the 2024 F1 Singapore GP is set. We have Lando Norris in pole position with Max Verstappen alongside him on the front row. The second row is the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
The third row would have Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg in his Haas while the Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are on the fifth row.
The F1 Singapore GP tends to produce action in some of the strangest ways. Last season it was a result of a safety car mixing things up. What could we have this time around? Well, there are cars starting the race out of their usual positions which would make things interesting.
With that being said, what can we expect from the event? Let's take a look at our predictions.
#1 Lando Norris wins F1 Singapore GP
Yes, we know Max Verstappen starts the race next to Lando Norris and we also know that the McLaren driver has not had a great history of putting together impressive starts. With that being said, there is a very short run to turn 1. Then we have to remember another thing. The McLaren is probably a faster car and has better tire management.
To compound things, there's a 4th DRS zone that's going to make racing even closer. Unless Lando loses his head completely, even if he loses the lead on the first lap, if he keeps his composure, he ends up jumping Max ultimately. We're backing the McLaren driver to do just that as he is our pick for winning the F1 Singapore GP.
#2 Charles Leclerc finishes inside top 5
Charles Leclerc starts the race in P9 which is surely not an ideal position but what the Ferrari driver would be looking to do is make up places using the 4th DRS zone.
The DRS zone at the end of the lap is long and would require some aggressive maneuvering but it would aid overtakes. Ferrari has the pace around the track and we're backing the driver to find his way through the field into the top 5.
#3 The Mercedes duo could be the spoilers
The second row has Lewis Hamilton and George Russell and while both of them nailed their laps, it's hard to predict what kind of pace the two would have in the F1 Singapore GP. Could they have the same pace as the frontrunners?
That's tough to predict but it won't come as a surprise if these two gamble with strategy and we see one or both opt for something out of the box to ruffle a few feathers up front.
#4 The 4 DRS zones will impact overtaking
There's been a lot of talk about the 4th DRS zone making an appearance for the F1 Singapore GP. Well, the DRS zone alone won't be a game changer but what would prove to be a game changer is the fact that these zones are meshing together very well and hence the lead car would have a tough time shrugging off the chasing car from the DRS zone and hence build a lead.
The 4th DRS zone is going to aid overtaking but also aid strategy during the F1 Singapore GP.
#5 Max Verstappen is the wildcard for the win
While we are going with Lando Norris as our favorite for the win, one assumption/caveat is that Red Bull is going to be slower than McLaren. Well, what if that's not the case? What if the pace over a lap translates to pace in the race as well.
In that scenario, the start becomes very important and if Lando loses the lead, he's going to find it hard to beat Max. Max Verstappen is a dark horse to win the F1 Singapore GP and it all depends on the kind of pace Red Bull can show with the car.
