The F1 Singapore GP comes at a critical point, as it will set the stage for the last 6 races of the season. Red Bull has lost the championship lead to McLaren. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, has been able to minimize the damage against Lando Norris on his side.
You add Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri into the equation, and there appears to be a very interesting dynamic for a possible title fight this season. The F1 Singapore GP will feature a 4th DRS zone as well this weekend, which should make racing slightly more interesting. But what can we expect from the race weekend under the floodlights? Let's take a look.
#5 Alpine should have a stronger weekend
Alpine has been a bit of an embarrassment since the summer break. The car has been nowhere and the off-track stuff with the Viry personnel coming to Monza was a bad look. With that being said, the last few tracks didn't really suit the car anyway, as the power unit is arguably the worst by far on the grid.
Coming to Singapore, the situation is different. This is a track where things are possibly better. PU dependence is less and hence we can expect Alpine to be much stronger and maybe even be a contender for points.
#4 Haas will struggle
Haas had a much better and more competitive car in Baku, but coming to Singapore, this might not be the case. To succeed on a track like this, you need a much better handle on the twisty bits, which the car hasn't shown an ability for.
In an F1 Singapore GP, anything can happen, as has often been the case. But it would be hard to see the car to be right at the front of the midfield and be the 5th or 6th fastest car.
#3 It's going to be McLaren vs Ferrari once again
It's going to be McLaren vs Ferrari once again at the front of the grid. For the Italian team, Singapore has been a track that has suited the car well. The team has won plenty of races here in the past as well.
McLaren, on the other hand, seemingly works at every track it goes. The car just clicks and has seemingly no weaknesses. We might end up with another shootout between these two teams at the F1 Singapore GP.
#2 Red Bull and Max Verstappen struggle
Red Bull probably had a better showing than expected at Baku with Sergio Perez in the car and the team was quite positive with the way things looked with the Mexican. Max Verstappen himself didn't have the best day and felt that the car was not in the best shape.
Coming to the F1 Singapore GP, while there is an element of optimism after Baku, the track layout is just counterproductive in so many ways. The bumpy track compounded by the aggressive kerbs is just not something that work for the car. This weekend might just be damage limitation on steroids for Red Bull.
#1 Lando Norris wins the F1 Singapore GP
For the F1 Singapore GP, we're backing Lando Norris to win the race. The competition is going to be intense, especially with Oscar Piastri nailing everything recently and from Ferrari as well.
But there was one thing that stood out for Lando in Baku. He kept a very calm demeanor through all of it. The Brit is getting the hang of running at the front of the grid and that could help him win under the floodlights this weekend.
