The 2024 F1 Singapore GP witnessed dominance from Lando Norris as he cruised home to his third win of the season. The McLaren driver nailed the start for a change, and there would be no looking back from there. He continued to eke out tenths per lap over Max Verstappen as he won by over 20 seconds.
Oscar Piastri finished P3, with the Australian making his way through the field and getting another podium. Charles Leclerc climbed his way through the field and finished P5, while the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were P4 and P6 respectively.
As the Singapore GP race weekend ended, who would be happy with how the weekend went, and who should be disappointed? Let's take a look.
2024 F1 Singapore GP
Winner
Lando Norris
Lando Norris needed this win. The McLaren driver has been up against it in a title battle that seems out of reach. The race weekend in Baku was not the best for him, and it wasn't his fault either.
The weekend in Singapore, though, was as peerless as it can get for a driver. He got pole on Saturday, nailed the start and got the win. He had a couple of moments where he hit the wall, but it was all about bringing the car home with a great result. That's what he did, and that's why he still remains a contender.
Loser
Daniel Ricciardo
By the looks of it, it's all but over for Daniel Ricciardo in F1. He seemingly bows out, not in a way that was not the best suited for a driver who was once one of the best in the sport.
A lack of an official announcement from Red Bull is surprising, but the entire demeanor of Ricciardo and the ones close to him hint that the driver's exit seems imminent. The Australian has been a joy to watch and is renowned for his trademark smile.
Winner
Max Verstappen
The race in Baku left a lot to be desired for Verstappen. Coming to the Singapore GP, the Red Bull driver was prepared for the worst. The fact that he left the weekend on the podium, in P2 and conceding seven points is a miracle in itself.
It was Verstappen at his best, a driver who was willing to nail everything when needed in qualifying and put together arguably the best his car could have done.
Loser
Mercedes
Mercedes got another rude shock this weekend, as they were the fourth-fastest and didn't have the pace to compete for a podium. Maybe a better result could have been possible had Russell been let through earlier and Lewis Hamilyon on soft tyres hadn't balked him in the first stint, but it wouldn't have made too big a difference.
The bottom line is that Mercedes didn't have the pace at the Singapore GP, something they need to rectify soon.
Winner
The veterans
Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso don't get the kind of spotkight they often deserve. One of the primary reasons is that the two drivers don't have the cars to produce eye-catching results.
However, the job both drivers are doing for their respective teams and did at the Singapore GP cannot be ignored.
If we compare how many points Alonso and Hulkenberg have scored compared to their teammates, the stark contrast will show how much their teams are dependent on them. This was another strong showing by the veterans at the Singapore GP, as experience comes in handy.
Loser
Charles Leclerc
There is a strong argument to be made that Charles Leclerc should have won the Singapore GP. His second stint on the hard tyres and the manner in which he was consistently the fastest driver on track was a testament to what he could have done at the front of the grid.
It's a missed opportunity for Ferrari. The team has lost two wins in as many weeks, and they should be angry at themselves.
