The 2024 F1 Spanish GP saw Max Verstappen win his seventh race of the season. The Dutch driver fended off the late advances of Lando Norris and secured the win. The race also saw the return of Lewis Hamilton to the podium. This was the F1 legend's first podium this season.
In P4, we had George Russell, as the driver pulled off a stunning start where he jumped into the lead at the beginning of the race. The Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz made their way to P5 and P6, respectively, although both had a few words to say about each other later.
In all, this was a race weekend that would leave a few satisfied with how everything fared and others a bit disappointed. Who are they? Let's take a look at the winners and losers of the F1 Spanish GP.
2024 F1 Spanish GP
Winner
Max Verstappen and Red Bull
It would be very easy to just put all the eggs of the F1 Spanish GP win in the Max Verstappen basket, but that would be wrong because Max himself would be the first to tell you that if the team he has behind him doesn't do the job properly, he won't succeed.
Red Bull arguably didn't have the fastest car this weekend, but it still went away with the win, and that should tell you everything about the level at which the outfit runs.
Loser
Sergio Perez
At this stage, Sergio Perez is a liability at Red Bull. The results aren't coming and anyone who has followed Perez's time on the team can tell that things are not going to get better. Red Bull is risking losing the Constructors' Championship with this approach.
Winner
Mercedes
The team is now a frontrunner, having two podiums in two races. The good thing about this team is that the two drivers are going to drag the results from the car every weekend. The F1 Spanish GP means we now have four teams very close to each other at the front, and that's brilliant news for the sport.
Loser
Ferrari
Ferrari was the fourth fastest team this weekend that saw its two drivers clash on track and off it. The optimism around Fred Vasseur's team is starting to dim, and the squad is in dire need of a strong result in the near future.
Winner
Alpine
A double-point finish on performance would have been a dream for Bruno Famin at the start of the season. The fact that Alpine was the fifth fastest team on merit in the F1 Spanish GP should give the team some confidence. It should also be an incentive for the brand to start investing more in the project.
Loser
Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso will be praying to whichever higher power he believes in that the Adrian Newey rumor is true. If it's not the case, the driver needs to think long and hard about his future because this squad is quite clearly in decline.
