3 F1 career choices for Sergio Perez if Red Bull drops him mid-season

Sergio Perez's performance trajectory is one thing that has forced Red Bull into a situation where the Mexican driver's future is not secured. It surprised everyone when the team gave him a contract extension early in the season even though his performances were just not up to the mark.

The last four races have been damning, to say the least. Perez has not only been ineffective in the car but also found himself in a situation where he was even outscored by Nico Hulkenberg in a Haas.

If the performance trajectory doesn't improve, Perez is out of the team and into the wilderness. This could happen as early as 2024 mid-season. For a moment, if we assume that Sergio Perez gets dropped mid-season, what are his possible career options? Let's take a look.

Options for Sergio Perez if he's fired mid-season by Red Bull

#1 Audi

What Audi wants at this stage is a driver who's willing to be a part of the long-term project with the team. They want someone who can consistently extract strong results from a midfield contender and, at the same time, provide expertise and experience to grow.

What Audi is willing to offer is a very lucrative deal. The project is not going to be in great shape at the beginning but the scope for growth is tremendous and there's no doubt that the kind of money that goes into the project is only a positive for the team.

By all means, this would be perfect because Audi gives Sergio Perez the opportunity to once again drive for a major brand. He won't have a major drop in terms of what he's being paid and finally, this is a long-term job security that Perez, at this stage of his career, would aspire for, especially if he gets axed from Red Bull.

#2 Williams

Williams is one team that is well and truly on an upward trajectory at the moment. James Vowles has made all the right noises, but at the same time, he's now signing all the right people as well. This is a team that already has a strong driver in Alex Albon, established within the squad.

What the team is looking for is someone who can extract strong results from a midfield car. This is something that Sergio Perez has excelled at throughout his career. Not only that, while James Vowles has tons of expertise on knowing what constitutes a top team, any additional information from someone who has been a part of the Red Bull setup is just icing on the cake.

If Carlos Sainz does not sign with Williams, Sergio Perez is the perfect choice for the team.

#3 Sabbatical

Finally, a somewhat unfortunate choice would be Sergio Perez taking a sabbatical from the sport. The driver was quite vocal when his contract extension was announced that he didn't want to drive for just any team. He's been in F1 for a long time and won't settle for a less than competitive slot.

If there is a possibility that the Audi offer is something he does not want to invest his time in or the Williams project doesn't work from either side, we're looking at a scenario where a seat is available at Haas or RB. That's not where Sergio Perez would want to end up, and that is precisely why the driver might look at the option of a sabbatical very seriously.
