3 reasons why Carlos Sainz should pick Alpine over every other option

Carlos Sainz and his F1 future saw a brand new twist when the Spaniard's father was apparently in conversation with the latest Alpine signing, Flavio Briatore. Ever since the news came out that Ferrari had signed Lewis Hamilton for 2025, Sainz has been left in the lurch.

Since the start of the season, the Spaniard has worked hard to try and secure his future in F1. After the Spanish GP, Carlos Sainz sits with multiple options on the table. On one side, there's Williams, whose team principal, James Vowles, has done his all when it comes to try and woo Sainz. On the other side, there's Audi/Sauber with a lucrative offer for Carlos, and now we have Alpine, another team that has thrown the hat in the ring.

When the season began, all roads led to Audi/Sauber for Carlos Sainz. Recently, it's been Williams who was supposedly in prime position, and now we have Alpine.

In all of this, for Carlos Sainz, it makes the most sense to sign with Alpine. Here's why.

#1 The team fulfills Carlos Sainz's criteria for selection

What Carlos Sainz wants at this stage is a team that's a regular points scorer at the very least. That kind of team would end up giving Carlos the opportunity to at least show how good he is and get the results. If you compare teams like Audi, Williams, and Alpine and even in 2024 compare their growth charts, you will see that the French squad gives Carlos the best opportunity.

The Spaniard is not looking to join a team for the long term or be a part of the project. What he wants is to be a part of the team that is his launch pad to a bigger team, and Alpine fits the description perfectly at the moment.

#2 In terms of options, Alpine is the most formidable

Audi will take over Sauber, an operation that was underfunded for close to a decade. It's going to take at least a couple of years before that car is competitive.

Williams is still on a path to recovery but has not gotten there yet. We can see this in their results as well, where things have more or less remained the same.

James Vowles is determined, and work is going on in the background, but it's going to take some time before Williams becomes formidable.

Alpine, on the other hand, is a team that finished P4 in 2022, had 2 podiums last season, and was among the best in the last race. Its overall long-term ceiling is a question mark, but for now, it does appear that the team is in a better place compared to the other two.

#3 The Mercedes power unit will be a boost

If Alpine can accomplish this, then this would be a mega deal. There have been conversations about the team ditching the Renault power unit and becoming a customer team. If that happens, then even the 2026 F1 season could have a positive outlook for this team.

The biggest weakness of the squad has been the power unit. If that is out of the equation, then Carlos Sainz could even consider being part of the operation in the long run.
