4 F1 drivers ft. Lewis Hamilton who have been knighted

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver in F1 history and has almost every single record in the sport to his name. Aside from collecting trophies and records, the seven-time world champion has also been recognized by his country for his outstanding achievements in motorsport.

He is among a select few in F1 who have been bestowed with the honor of knighthood by his country, the UK. Below is the list of four drivers who have been knighted:

#1 Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton took to the pinnacle of motorsport like a duck to water, achieving instant success while producing the greatest rookie season in F1 history. After the Mercedes driver won his first World Championship in 2008 in dramatic fashion, he was bestowed the honor of MBE in 2009 by the Queen.

Hamilton got a higher honor in 2021 when he was conferred knighthood after he equaled Michael Schumacher's record of seven world championships in F1 at the end of the 2020 season. He was knighted by then-Prince of Wales Charles at the end of the 2021 season with his mother, Linda, in attendance.

#2 Jackie Stewart

Before Sir Lewis Hamilton, Sir Jackie Stewart was the most successful driver from the UK as he won 27 races along with three world championships in 1969, 1971, and 1973.

In the 1971 Queen's Birthday Honors, the "Flying Scot" received the OBE (Order of the British Empire) after he won his second title. In 2001, he was bestowed knighthood for his contribution to services to motor racing.

#3 Jack Brabham

Three-time world champion Sir Jack Brabham remains the most successful Australian driver to date, as he won 14 races, stood on 31 podiums, and secured world championships in 1959, 1960, and 1966.

He initially raced for the Cooper and Rob Walker Racing team but went on to race for his eponymous team, Brabham, in 1962. He became the only man in F1 to win a title in the sport driving his cars. He was given an OBE after his third world championship and was then conferred with knighthood in 1979.

#4 Sterling Moss

Sir Sterling Moss is regarded by many as one of the greatest F1 drivers to never win a title in the sport. Known for his stellar talent and skills behind the wheel, the Brit raced for some of the most iconic brands in the world such as Mercedes, Maserati, and Lotus.

During his series racing career from 1948 to 1962, Moss won 14 races and stood on the podium 24 times. After his racing career, the Brit became a legendary pundit in the sport and was bestowed with the title of Knight Bachelor during the New Year Honors in 2000.
