#4 Fernando Alonso - 7 Retirements
Fernando Alonso suffered seven opening lap retirements in his long Formula 1 career. A gearbox failure at the 2001 Belgium Grand Prix was the Spaniard's first retirement without completing a single lap.
Alonso's second first lap retirement came at the 2008 European Grand Prix, seven years after his first. Alonso was taken out by Force India's Adrian Sutil on the very first lap of the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix, which resulted in his third retirement.
Driving for the Ferrari, Alonso experienced two opening lap retirements during the 2012 Formula 1 Grand Prix, one due to a puncture while the other was due to a pile-up.
2015 Austrian Grand Prix saw the Spaniard's sixth retirement while the pile-up at the 2018 Belgium Grand Prix is Alonso's most recent first lap retirement.
