F1 drivers are superstars in motorsports and enjoy a stellar fan following worldwide. The sport's high-speed and high-adrenaline nature has attracted many to the paddock, including Hollywood celebrities, musicians, fashion models, and superstars from other sports.
There have been a few instances in the past in which the paths of the Hollywood film industry and Formula One have crossed as the film industry has explored certain subjects on several occasions.
Movies such as "Rush", which is based on the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt are prime examples, and the upcoming Brad Pitt starrer named "F1" which will be released in 2025 is the most recent instance.
However, there have been a few instances when F1 drivers have delved into the world of movies and made cameos in popular franchises. Below is the list of five drivers who have made an appearance in a Hollywood movie:
#1 1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve
F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has always been an eccentric personality in the world of motorsport and despite having a prolific racing career, he also released his own music album.
Apart from his own music album, the Canadian appeared as himself in the racing movie "Driven" in 2001 which starred Sylvester Stallone in the lead.
#2 Juan Pablo Montoya
The former F1 driver just like Jacques Villeneuve had made a name for himself in the IndyCar series and won the Indy500 in 2000. The Columbian entered the pinnacle of motorsport in 2001 and drove for iconic teams like Williams and McLaren before leaving in the middle of 2006.
Just like Villeneuve, Juan Pablo Montoya too appeared in the 2001 movie "Driven" where he appeared as himself alongside former driver Mario Andretti and Mark Blundell.
#3 Lewis Hamilton
The former Mercedes driver is arguably the most famous driver from the world of motorsport and ventured on several occasions into fashion and entertainment, including appearing in music videos.
Due to his connections in the film industry, Lewis Hamilton will act as a producer on the upcoming Brad Pitt starrer released next year. However, he too has been involved much more closely in a movie, when he voiced himself in the 2011 animation "Cars 2".
#4 Fernando Alonso
The two-time world champion has also been closely associated with the Cars franchise over the years as he has done voice roles in each of the three installments to date.
In the first movie, he voiced the role of Mario Andretti in the Spanish version, in the second he voiced himself and replaced the character of Jeff Gorvette in his native version while in the final installment of the trilogy, he voiced Lewis Hamilton in Spanish.
#5 Mario Andretti
Formula 1 world champion Michael Andretti is an American motorsport legend and has played a key role in expanding the popularity in the USA. He had been the go-to person for several years for anything F1-related in the States and as a result, appeared in a few movies like the Cars franchise and the 1997 released Turbo, where he voiced the role of a race official.
