The 2024 F1 season is a peculiar one because it has no rookies on the grid. This is a strange occurrence because more often than not the sport has a steady flow of talent in and out of the grid. For every 2024 F1 season, there is a 2025 season where there is already an army of talent lined up to join the grid.
If there is new talent waiting to join the grid, then their entry would come at the expense of the drivers already on the grid. On the current grid, there are drivers who are possibly racing their last seasons in Formula 1. Who are they? Let's take a look.
F1 drivers that might not be on the grid in 2025
#1 Valtteri Bottas
Williams was one team where the Finnish driver could have ended up, but with Carlos Sainz joining the squad next season, that door is closed. Bottas is in a precarious position wherein despite dominating his teammate throughout the season, he might not have a seat next year, especially with most doors either closing or having already closed.
#2 Kevin Magnussen
The signing of Nico Hulkenberg by Haas is something that has turned the fortunes of Kevin Magnussen upside down. With Mick Schumacher as a teammate, the Danish F1 driver had things under control, but Hulkenberg has stepped the game up just a few notches at Haas and left Magnussen in a situation where he's been left a bit exposed.
With Haas opting for the Ocon-Bearman partnership, we're looking at a scenario where Magnussen might be racing in F1 for the last time.
#3 Logan Sargeant
There's no easy way to say this but Sargeant has had a rough ride in F1. It started with a lack of adaptability when it came to competing with Alex Albon. Then came the next step in 2024, where Williams favored Albon, Logan's teammate, for almost everything, including priority on car parts.
The American is expected to be in talks with Prema for a seat in IndyCar as the door to F1 seemingly closes on him forever.
#4 Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo is maybe a surprising name in this list but considering the situation he finds himself in, this might be on the cards. RB is not a junior Red Bull team but it is still a team that would be used by Horner and Marko to test younger talent.
When that is the case, Ricciardo just doesn't fit the criteria. His performances as well have not left everyone thinking about what he could do in a better car either. Overall, we might be in a situation where the Australian is completing his last season in F1.
#5 Guanyu Zhou
Zhou is probably a driver who has made the worst case out of everyone involved. The Chinese driver has not done well up against Bottas this season. With Bottas himself not in contention of keeping his seat, that makes things very hard for Zhou, who has not shown the ability to improve from the foundational level at which he was performing when he joined Formula 1. Unless the Chinese government, for instance, spends a ton of money, Zhou might be on his way out of the sport.
