The 2025 F1 season is knocking on the door as we get ready to move into a new year. The 2024 season was a major surprise in terms of what it offered and what it was expected to do. There was a hint of a title fight as well for the first time since 2021, but Max Verstappen was quick to rise to the challenge.

As we head into the 2025 F1 season, there are plenty of things that it could possibly offer. At the same time, for any fan, there is a wishlist of items that they want the new season to offer. What are they? Let's take a look.

#1 Top four F1 teams within touching distance of each other

In 2024 we got very close to having a scenario where every race weekend any of the top four teams could emerge with the best car. The fact that it happened after Miami did somewhat temper the hype, as Max Verstappen and Red Bull had already built a massive advantage over everyone else.

With that being said, Mercedes was still a step behind most of the time while the pecking order yo-yo'd a bit every race weekend. If we're able to replicate a similar pecking order variance with the gaps between cars even smaller, we might have one of the all-time great F1 seasons.

#2 Aston Martin and Sauber making bigger strides toward the front

It's safe to say that 2026 is being eyed by both Audi and Aston Martin as the year they make their first big splash. For Aston Martin, it's about taking the step to fight for the wins and championships while the German team would be looking to have a decent induction into the sport.

Looking at the 2024 F1 season, it's safe to say that neither of the two teams would be happy with where they are in terms of performance, and the next step has to come urgently in 2025. For a fan as well, it's nice to have new contenders emerge in F1, and Audi and Aston Martin have been lining themselves up to be just that.

#3 A decent sprinkling of rain-affected races

What makes an F1 season brilliant? A great title fight? Yes. Great on-track action? Yes. To add to this, one of the best bits for a great F1 season is if we have a few races where rain plays a role.

Even in 2024, we had a few races where rain played a role, and almost all of them were brilliant, with Brazil having a freak result of an Alpine "two-three" finish that turned the team's season on its head. A few races where rain plays a role would be just perfect.

#4 A more capable and consistent FIA

One of the biggest gripes for a sport like F1 is that it is managed by a governing body that has proven to be incompetent when it comes to managing races. This is something that's been an issue for a while now, and heading into a season where a title battle could potentially be on the cards, any F1 fan would be hoping that the FIA is on its toes and not falling short of the standards that it needs to maintain.

#5 A massive reduction in the performance gap between the top four teams and the rest

Finally, arguably one of the biggest flaws for the 2024 season was the fact that the grid was divided into two parts. On one side we had the top four teams that contested for wins, podiums, and championships. On the other, we had the bottom six teams that were at least half a second behind the front 4.

This kind of gap makes it a two-tier race where one more or less knows what teams are fighting for and what the stakes are heading into a race weekend. This does discourage the jeopardy factor in a race weekend where a freak result is a possibility. For instance, the podium for Alpine was a shocker, as unless it was a freak weekend, we would never have that kind of a result.

For the 2025 season, one hopes the gap between the front and the midfield narrows, which could help make the racing even more unpredictable and throw up more surprises every race.
