The Australian Grand Prix is a historic race in Formula 1, first becoming part of the World Championship in 1985. Though the event has been held since 1928, it only became an official part of the Formula One Championship in 1985. From 1985 to 1995, it was held at the Adelaide Street Circuit. However, the race moved to Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit in 1996, where it has remained ever since. Since its shift to Albert Park, the Australian GP has served primarily as the F1 season opener. However, the race in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled becuase of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a report by ABC, the Australian Grand Prix cost Victorian taxpayers $100.6 million to host the 2023 edition of the event.
