The qualifying session of US Grand Prix took place without Caterham and Marussia who are now under administration for failing to meet their debts. Their demise highlighted the issue of rising cost in Formula 1 while also pin pointed out the sport's inequitable distribution of income which is heavily skewed towards the top teams. Nonetheless, the session went ahead with Nico Rosberg surging ahead of chief championship rival Lewis Hamilton as he attempts to pull down the 17 points deficit in the drivers standings. Valtteri Bottas qualified third ahead of Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas. Sebastian Vettel will start the race from the pitlane for using sixth power unit of the season.
