There were speculations that how much the ban will cost Red Bull at Silverstone, but with by locking the front row of the grid Red Bull again proved their class. Ferrari is at the second row but McLaren had an awful day as Button just managed P5 and Hamilton was further back at tenth place. Force India had a strong outing as the home boy Di Resta was at P6 and Adrian just missed Q3 and was at P11. Maldonado also performed brilliantly with P7. Renault and Torro Rosso had a disastrous outing and they really struggled at Silverstone.
Let’s have a look how each team performed at the Qualifying of British GP
Red Bull: Mark Webber P1, Sebastian Vettel P2
Red kept the pole position under them this time also but with Webber. Vettel qualified at P2 and the Red Bulls were very strong. Webber puts in a very clean lap to put his teammate in his back. The two Red Bulls were just .032 seconds apart from each other.
Ferrari: Fernando Alonso P3, Felipe Massa P4
Ferrari was very strong in the qualifying and locked the second row of the grid. Fernando once again outpaced his teammate Massa by quite a bit of margin. Ferrari was just one tenth of a second behind Red Bull and this is their strongest qualifying performance in this season. The Pirelli Harder compounds also performed well for the Italian outfit.
McLaren: Jenson Button P5, Lewis Hamilton P10
A disastrous outing for the home team as both Button and Hamilton struggled badly. Button just managed 5th on the grid and Hamilton was at 10th place. The regulation changes have hurt McLaren very badly as they were very much off the pace compared with Red Bull and Ferrari. The home team will not be expecting this kind of performance in their home qualifying.
Force India: Paul Di Resta P6, Adrian Sutil P11
Force India had a superb qualifying performance with both Sutil and Di Resta. Di Resta made his maiden home outing memorable by achieving his best qualifying position. Adrian also looked good but just missed Q3 after some late charge by the rivals. Force India will be targeting good amount of points to move up in the championship.
Williams: Pastor Maldonado P7, Ruben Barrichello P15
Another home team performed brilliantly in the tricky conditions and Maldonado achieved P7 for the team, Barrichello was not upto speed and just managed 15th. However, Barrichello complained about traffic.
Sauber: Kobayashi P8, Perez P12
Kamui performed strongly in the Sauber and made it through to Q3 but his teammate missed his Q3outing by just thousands of a second. Both the drivers were very happy with the performance and will be targeting some healthy points in the race.
Mercedes: Nico Rosberg P9, Michael Schumacher P13
Not a good performance from Mercedes as both the cars didn’t performed according to the expectations. Rosberg but managed P9 and Schumacher were at P13 behind Perez. Schumacher’s performance may be halted by the gear box issues that he had in the morning but he gave his own reasons for not making into Q3.
Renault: Vitaly Petrov P14, Nick Heidfeld P16
Renault didn’t perform well in the qualifying and their performance is going down all the time. Petrov was looking for a strong performance at Silverstone but just managed 14 on the grid. Heidfeld struggled with his rear wing and that halted his performance.
Torro Rosso: Jaime Alguersuari P18, Sebastian Buemi P19
Torro Rosso had a disastrous day with both Buemi and Jaime as none of the drivers make their car through to the second leg of qualifying. The tricky conditions made Torro Rosso their first victim.
Lotus: Heikki Kovalainen P17, Jarno Trulli P21
A superb outing by the Lotus as Heikki make his car trough to Q2 and Trulli managed P21 after a late charge by Glock in his Virgin.
Virgin: Timo Glock P20, Jerome D’Ambrosio P22
Virgin had a good outing if not brilliant as Glock outpaced Trulli first time season and qualified on P20. Jerome also drove well outpaced both the HRTs.
