Jenson Button, who has put his championship aspirations on hold for a year, is reluctant to give up on his dreams of winning a race this season.
McLaren has been struggling to keep up since the beginning of the year, with both their cars falling short of the points in Canada. Button has scored all of 25 points, which is the same amount that he acquired after just one race last season, and is distressingly stuck in the tenth position in the driver’s championship. But in spite of his unfavorable situation, he is still optimistic about his chances of winning later this year.
“I want to do the best I can, and every race I go into I hope to get the maximum out of the car, and I aim to win grands prix this year,” he told Press Association Sport. “When it comes to the championship you have to think further ahead because we’re so far behind we’re not going to win the championship this year. But we can still win grands prix, there is still that possibility and you have to aim for that.”
He also added that he is happy at McLaren compared to his stints with uncompetitive outfits.
