Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost has downplayed Carlos Sainz Jr’s chances of a race seat next season by saying that the driver needs to gain more experience.
“Sainz, Kvyat and Da Costa are the three candidates for the seat, but I also believe that Carlos is missing two seasons [before he gets an F1 seat] as I do not believe you should get into Formula One before 20. Nor expect too much from them,” Tost was quoted as saying by MARCA.
Sainz Jr has been linked with a Toro Rosso seat after Red Bull confirmed the signing of Daniel Ricciardo from the team.
“Carlos has to continue competing in lower formulas, win, grow and then wait to make the leap. I don’t make the decision alone, but there are several people who will decide with are best for all. You can never say no to anything, but I don’t think Carlos will run in 2014,” Tost added.
