Carlos Sainz Jr is a Spanish racing driver competing for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One. Born on September 1, 1994, in Madrid, Spain, he is the son of two-time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz. Sainz started with karting and went up the junior formula ranks with various championships before moving to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, which he won in 2014. He debuted with Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One in 2015 and went there for two seasons before transferring to Renault Sport Formula One Team in 2018. In 2019, he joined McLaren until the end of 2020. In 2021, Sainz started driving for Scuderia Ferrari with teammate Charles Leclerc. Sainz secured four Formula One Grand Prix wins, six pole positions, four fastest laps, and 26 podium finishes. Sainz is described as consistent and a great tactical racer. As of the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix Sainz has won four races, taken six poles, four fastest laps, and finished on 26 podiums in Formula One.

Carlos Sainz Jr.'s father, Carlos Sainz Sr., was a rally driver and won the World Rally Championship twice in 1990 and 1992. He is considered one of the all-time great rally drivers, who has achieved victory in the Dakar Rally.
