Carlos Sainz showed signs of desperation in the latest update he shared about his F1 future. The Spaniard claimed that he didn't want to wait any longer before making a decision. The Spaniard was one of the biggest losers of Lewis Hamilton's signing with Ferrari.

Sainz's contract ends at the end of the 2024 F1 season with Ferrari and in terms of performance, he's certainly done his bit. Having said that, the driver was usurped when the legend in Lewis Hamilton became available and was ready to join the Scuderia.

Since the announcement early in the year, Carlos Sainz has been one of the hottest properties in F1. The driver has the pedigree of driving with a top team and achieving a lot of success as well. For Sainz, however, none of the options on the table are an upgrade. Going to any of these teams is a downgrade from where he is right now.

Having said that, there are a few options on the table for Carlos Sainz, with the two frontrunners being Williams and Audi. While rumors have suggested that Sainz might be heading to the James Vowles-led team, the decision hasn't been made yet.

Carlos Sainz himself opened up a little during the pre-race press conference, where he said that he didn't want to wait any longer to make decisions about his future. He said:

“The latest is that a decision will be taken very soon. I don’t want to wait any longer. I think it’s getting to a point where it’s taking space out of my head for some weeks and months now. It’s time to make a decision and that decision will be taken soon. So, hopefully soon, we will have things to talk about.”

Carlos Sainz claims that no decision has been made

Even though rumors have been rife that Carlos Sainz's deal with Williams is nothing more than a formality now, the Spaniard doesn't agree and refutes these claims. The Spaniard claimed that the biggest issue for him was that he had not made a decision yet. He said:

“No, that’s the thing. I’m still not sure one way or the other. It’s still something I’m discussing with my team, and brainstorming obviously. I need a couple of days at home."

He added:

"Before the Spanish Grand Prix, I was at home, but you don’t have the head in the future – you have your head in the Spanish Grand Prix, it has been a very hectic couple of weeks after Canada for me so I haven’t had time to sit down and make a decision. So this is what I’ll target in the next few weeks.”

It does appear that from the options available, Carlos Sainz is heading for either Williams in what would be a short-term commitment or Audi which would be a long-term one. The answer might be known by the end of the F1 Spanish GP.
