In 2014, 1.6 litre turbocharged V6 engine were incorporated in place of 2.4-litre V8 engine. This led to the period of dominance for Mercedes-powered cars. The Championship was fought between the two Mercedes drivers- Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Top position was exchanging by each passing race.

From Italian Grand Prix to United States Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton won five races on the trot. In this process, he gained a significant lead over Nico Rosberg. He drove superbly when it mattered the most and won his second championship title.
