F1 penalty points after the Austrian GP: 5 biggest delinquents

F1 penalty points were introduced to not let driving standards fall below a threshold. The drivers are given penalty points on the basis of transgressions that they commit on track. These transgressions can vary from causing a collision to driving dangerously, pushing a driver off-track, among other things.

The severity of these transgressions determines how many F1 penalty points are issued to the respective drivers. The F1 Austrian GP was an eventful one with it being a sprint weekend. With two races came multiple days of penalties, as Nico Hulkenberg and Max Verstappen picked up a few.

Fernando Alonso now has eight F1 penalty points to his name. His divebomb on Guanyu Zhou cost him a 10-second penalty and two more penalty points.
