The F1 penalty points system has been put in place to keep the driving standards on track above a certain threshold. The system, where points are given based on transgressions, was introduced in 2014.
Driving standards had taken a hit, with drivers like Romain Grosjean getting a race ban in 2012 for the incident he caused in the F1 Belgian GP.
Since 2014, when this system was put in place, no driver has been banned, even though Pierre Gasly came close in 2023. In this system, points are given to drivers based on their on-track transgressions.
These penalty points stay with the drivers for 12 months, and if the drivers accumulate 12 points, they face a race ban. On that note, as the summer break comes to an end, where does each driver stand in terms of F1 penalty points before the Dutch GP? Let's take a look.
