Ferrari collects EUR 1.8 million for earthquake victims

The Ferrari team has revealed that its online auction has raised EUR 1.8 million, which will be used to help the families who were victimized by the earthquakes in northern Italy. The event was set up after the Emilia-Romagna region was struck by two quakes in May. Several collectors’-items were auctioned off, such as an engine from the F2008 for the price of EUR 80.000 and a nose cone form the 2009 F60 for EUR 23.000. The most notable item was a Ferrari 599XX which was sold to an American client for the price of EUR 1.4 million. Another approximated EUR 100.000 was received out of spontaneous donations.

Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo praised the team by saying: “A pole position result: I knew I could count on the big-heartedness of the Ferraristi, but they have still managed to surprise me once again. I would like to thank all the clients, collectors and enthusiasts that did their bit. Their bids have sent out a message of warmth and solidarity to the people in our region affected by this tragedy.”
