Final race of 2013—Brazil Grand Prix
The upcoming Brazil Grand Prix marks the end of 2013 season of Formula One. It was a fairytale season for current World Champion Sebastian Vettel and a disastrous one for rest of the drivers. The defending Champion of Brazil, Jenson Button who has failed to win even a single race this year, would try to repeat his 2012’s drive. This race is going to be significant to a number of drivers.
World waits for Vettel’s 9/9..
Looking into his 2013’s statistics, he has won 12 races, 15 podium finishes, seven pole positions but the record which highlighted his year was his eight consecutive victories from Belgian. His win last weekend in United States equaled the record of eight wins in a row which was Michael Schumacher and Alberto Ascari. He is on his way to finish the season with nine wins in a succession—again which is Albert Ascari’s record since 1952. The way he has been racing in the last two or three months, his victory in Brazil looks obvious but the tremendous pressure under which he would be can spoil his party.
Last year the Championship was decided in Brazil and the way he handled the difficult situation says it all. His car spun in the first lap but Vettel managed to finish sixth was enough for him to clinch the title.
Webber’s final race
The race weekend in Brazil is Mark Webber’s last in F1. The Australian has been in this sport for 11 years now with 214 race starts, nine wins, and 41 podium positions but hasn’t won any Championship. He stands fifth currently in the driver’s title and since Kimi Raikkonen is not taking part, he has the chance to finish fourth in his last year of Formula One.
Webber has had a very disappointing second half of the season which had a couple of retirements and not winning even when he started on pole. He is yet to win a single race this season so surely he would love to finish his career on a winning note.
Year’s emotional driver transfer—Massa’s last for Ferrari
Felipe Massa will race for one final time for Ferrari. Massa being a Brazilian, thousands and thousands would be there to support him. He has a similar story as Webber with no wins this year. Though neither did he have one last year. He was on podium in Brazil in 2012 so he would surely want to repeat his emotional drive once again.
Williams have signed Massa for the year 2014 for teaming up with Valtteri Bottas. After him driving for eight years for the “Prancing Horses” it is considered to be the most emotional driver transfer of the recent years. Raikkonen is chosen by Ferrari for their driver line-up for the next season.
Can Alonso end 2013 on a winning note?
2013 has been a heart-shattering season for the two- time World Champion Fernando Alonso. Even though he started the year well, winning two races from first five races. After that, the entire world saw the young Vettel zoomed off with all the Grand Prix victories.
Alonso, who is considered to be one of the most consistent racers, can bounce back in the year-ending race. He couldn’t deny Vettel from winning the Championship but he can surely stop him from making another world record which would be next to impossible to break in the next five or six years. Such performances are once in a life-time so it is difficult for Vettel too to match his this year in the future.
